Touchmark at Wedgewood is Edmonton's leading full-service retirement community, enriching the lives of residents and their families through five-star hospitality, services and amenities. We are currently seeking the right person to join our team as a Line Cook!
This is a great opportunity for you to be a part of an exciting, unique and state of the art culinary experience.
- Preparing and plating dishes to order
- Cooking soups, sauces and toppings from scratch - learning and sharing with one another
- Measuring, portioning and plating
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work both independently and as a team.
- Knowledge of all Food Safety Handling requirements and relevant legislation (Alberta Gaming and Liquor, others).
- Required uniform worn at all times; and hair covered and away from face;
- Interested in working in an environment with older adults;
- Patient and tactful when dealing with residents, family members, volunteers, visitors, physicians, staff from other departments and the general public;
- Willingness to perform a variety of repetitive tasks;
- Willingness to accept training for procedures specific to this department;
- Willingness to accept supervision and direction from supervisor and to work as a member of a team;
- Ability to get along with co-workers, demonstrate integrity and express a sense of humor;
- Must demonstrate and practice proper safety and lifting techniques.
- Experience in institutional quantity cooking and knowledge of therapeutic diets and their preparation is very helpful.
- Ability to organize time and food preparation to specified times;
- Maintain and promote the highest food quality and production standards;
- Ability to make appropriate substitutions to the menu, when necessary, and report those substitutions to the Executive Chef.
- Assist with special catering as required.
- Model the Touchmark values in decision-making and in interactions with team members, residents, and guests.
- Know the Touchmark Gold Standard for your area of responsibility and adhere to it.
Essential Functions
- Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance and punctuality;
- Ability to lead, manage, model, and make decisions in accordance with the Touchmark Values;
- Ability to give and follow oral and written instructions;
- Ability to complete required paperwork and filing with high degree of accuracy;
- Ability to observe resident’s behavior and communicate observations in a professional and intelligent manner;
- Ability to operate standard kitchen and business equipment;
- Some weekend and evening work may be required.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
- Attend Stand-Up Meetings and Culinary Planning Meetings;
- Hold self and others accountable for meeting the Touchmark Gold Standards;
- Check kitchen for sanitation and regulatory standards;
- Ensure production numbers are being filled out regularly on the templates from provided to you by your Executive Chef
- Follow all printed recipes, production sheets, and prep/pull sheets provided to you daily by your Executive Chef
- Ensure temperature logs are filled out and food is being cooked and served at appropriate temperatures;
- Respond quickly and effectively to customer needs and complaints;
Performance Standards
- Nutritional and tastefully prepared food at all times;
- Kitchen staff, equipment and materials must be professional looking and well organized at all times;
Must communicate with all staff in a dignified and professional manner.
Final candidate must produce a clear police check.
