The Senior Estimator will support multi-family construction projects by leading the development of accurate, well-structured cost estimates that inform purchasing, site teams, and leadership decisions. This role requires strong technical expertise, a solid understanding of construction methods and materials, and the ability to manage estimates across multiple project stages.

The successful candidate will independently manage complex estimates while collaborating closely with design, purchasing, and construction teams, and will contribute to continuous improvement, cost analysis, and value engineering initiatives that support project efficiency and business growth.

Responsibilities

  • Complete the preparation of detailed and accurate construction estimates across multiple project scopes and stages of development
  • Develop and maintain standardized takeoff procedures and estimating best practices to improve consistency and efficiency
  • Interpret and analyze drawings, specifications, and contract documents to define the complete project scope and associated costs
  • Perform and oversee construction takeoffs for key scopes, including concrete, wood framing, building envelope systems, and interior finishes
  • Prepare clear, structured estimates that support purchasing strategies and site team execution
  • Collaborate with purchasing, design, and project teams to ensure estimates align with construction methods, schedules, and procurement strategies
  • Provide cost analysis, budgeting, and constructability input during preliminary design stages
  • Identify value engineering opportunities, logistical challenges, and scope gaps early in the estimating process
  • Analyze historical project data, budgets, and material costs to improve estimating accuracy and forecasting
  • Research strategies to reduce material waste, improve procurement efficiency, and support cost control initiatives
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to stay current on new materials, construction methods, sustainable products, estimating technologies, and market insights
  • Participate in department meetings and cross-functional discussions to support project planning and alignment
  • Identify process gaps and support improvements that enhance collaboration and estimating efficiency
  • Provide mentorship and training to developing members of the estimating team as the department grows

Skills And Experience

  • 5+ years of estimating experience in residential, commercial, or multi-family construction (GC or design-build experience preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian building codes, construction standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Strong knowledge of construction estimating methods, materials, specifications, and construction practices
  • Proven experience preparing complex estimates and supporting projects through multiple stages of development
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and estimating software such as Plan Swift, On-Screen Takeoff, or equivalent
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cost analysis skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take ownership of work
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel to job sites as required
