Position Details

Are you passionate about supporting student mental health and wellness? Do you thrive in a collaborative, high-performing team environment? The University of Lethbridge is seeking a dedicated Counsellor to join our Counselling Services team on a full-time, term basis, with the position commencing as soon as possible.

Under the direction of the Director of Student Wellness, the Counsellor will play a key role in promoting mental health and well-being across campus. This position provides direct clinical support and works proactively to enhance the student experience through prevention and outreach initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide confidential individual and group counselling to support students facing a range of personal, emotional, and mental health challenges.
  • Develop and facilitate psycho-educational workshops and programming tailored to the needs of the student population.
  • Deliver mental health training and outreach activities, contributing to campus-wide mental health literacy and resilience-building.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the Student Wellness team and across campus to ensure integrated and holistic support for students.
  • Maintain appropriate clinical records and adhere to ethical and professional standards of practice.
  • Contribute to the continuous development of counselling services in alignment with emerging best practices in post-secondary mental health.

Note: The successful candidate will be required to submit a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.

Position Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a closely related discipline is required.

  • Registration (or eligibility for registration) with an appropriate professional regulatory body (e.g., College of Alberta Psychologists, Alberta College of Social Workers, etc.).

  • A minimum of two years of post-master’s counselling experience is preferred, ideally in a post-secondary, healthcare, or community mental health setting.

  • Demonstrated experience with short-term, solution-focused therapy and crisis intervention.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • An understanding of the unique challenges facing post-secondary students and a commitment to inclusive, culturally responsive service delivery.

Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE)

$75,303.80 - $94,731.95 annually

Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE)

$75,303.80 - $114,160.09 annually (APO - Grade 4)
