About the role

ROLE OVERVIEW

Tree Island Steel is seeking a Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) for a 20-month contract, based in Richmond, BC. The HRBP serves as a strategic partner to business leaders, aligning HR initiatives with organizational goals. This role is responsible for driving talent management, employee engagement, workforce planning, and compliance while supporting a high-performance culture.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Talent Acquisition

  • Collaborate with hiring managers to define job requirements and develop recruitment strategies.
  • Manage end-to-end recruitment process including sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external recruitment agencies and educational institutions.
  • Implement employer branding initiatives to attract top talent.
  • Monitor recruitment metrics and provide insights for continuous improvement.

Employee & Labour Relations

  • Advise managers on employee relations issues and ensure fair resolution.
  • Interpret and apply collective agreements and employment legislation.
  • Participate in grievance handling and labour negotiations as required.
  • Maintain positive relationships with union representatives and employees.
  • Conduct investigations into workplace complaints and recommend corrective actions.

Training & Development

  • Assess training needs and develop training plans.
  • Coordinate delivery of leadership development and technical training programs.
  • Administer training grant applications.
  • Support career development initiatives and succession planning.
  • Promote continuous learning culture across the organization.

Disability Management

  • Monitor short-term and long-term disability claims in collaboration with insurers.
  • Support H&S Manager with return-to-work programs for injured employees.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
  • Provide guidance to managers on accommodation and modified duties.
  • Maintain accurate records of disability cases and related documentation.

HR Analytics

  • Collect and analyze HR data to identify trends and support decision-making.
  • Prepare regular reports on key HR metrics such as turnover, absenteeism, and engagement.
  • Use data insights to recommend process improvements and strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure data integrity and compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Collaborate with leadership to set measurable HR goals and track progress.

HR Administration

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in HRIS systems.
  • Prepare and process documentation for new hires, terminations, and employee changes.
  • Ensure compliance with employment standards, privacy regulations, and internal policies.
  • Support payroll accuracy by providing timely updates on employee status changes.
  • Coordinate HR audits and ensure proper documentation for regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with policy development, updates, and communication to employees.

Other:

  • Be a role model of the Company’s core values and guiding principles, while cultivating high performing teams, encourage teamwork through guidance and mentorship.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree or diploma in HR Management will accompany an ability to be tactical, hands-on and proactive.
  • 4-7 years of experience in human resources preferably within a manufacturing environment, including at least 3 years in labour relations.
  • A flexible, strategic thinker, with a strong track record of execution in a high growth, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • High degree of proficiency with Excel and HRM platforms.
  • CPHR designation is an asset.
