Location: Coldbrook, NS - On-Site

Salary: $47.53 per hour, as per the NSPI/IBEW Collective Agreement

Type of Employment: Full-Time, Regular

Closing Date: September 12, 2025

We are looking for an Electrician to join our team. Reporting to the Supervisor, Substation Operations, you will join a team of professionals at our Coldbrook location.

Key elements of this role include::

  • As a member of the Field Operations team, you will perform all aspects of installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment on the Transmission/Distribution System (e.g. reclosers, breakers, transformers, controls, underground power systems, switches, communication system, etc.)
  • You may be required to travel to other Nova Scotia Power sites throughout the province as required.
  • You will be required to participate in regulatory training and be willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills.
  • You will be responsible for your personal safety, that of co-workers and those under your direction by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
  • You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.
  • Your primary residence must be located within 30 minutes of headquarters, and you will be available for after-hour emergency service restoration, including rotational standby duty if required.
  • You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
  • You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.
  • This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.

  • Certification as a Journeyman Industrial Electrician with two (2) years’ experience with troubleshooting electrical equipment is required. Consideration may be given to those individuals who hold Certification as a Construction Electrician.
  • You have two years’ experience maintaining substation electrical equipment.
  • You have proven problem resolution skills and the flexibility and ability to adapt to rescheduled assignments.
  • You have experience of installing and testing mobile transformers.
  • Experience and certification in Standard Protection Code would be an asset.
  • You must be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills, a strong computer aptitude and the ability to deal with multiple tasks and demands. Leadership skills, self-motivation and demonstrated ability to work independently are essential.
  • You are a detailed-oriented individual, working to a high standard.
  • You must demonstrate your commitment to personal development.

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:

  • Must be able to lift 70 lbs. from the floor to waist level on an occasional basis and 70 lbs. from shoulder to overhead level on a minimal basis. Able to carry 70 lbs. with both hands on a minimal basis, with the overall ability to carry 30 lbs. on an occasional basis.
  • Able to push and pull 50 lbs. with whole body strength and be able to push and pull 100 lbs. with upper body strength on an occasional basis.
  • Perform static reaching at waist to above shoulder level on a frequent basis and from below waist level on an occasional basis.
  • Perform frequent standing and twisting. Perform occasional walking and neck flexion and rotation movements.
  • Perform sitting, squatting, kneeling, crouching, climbing, bending, stooping, and forward flexional movements on a minimal basis.
  • Ability to perform fine finger manipulation and possess a simple to firm grasp while performing turning and pinching motions.
