About the role

Role Overview

The Lead Civil/Structural Engineer will direct the civil/structural discipline on projects of varying size and complexity. This role is responsible for driving technical quality, reviewing and stamping deliverables as the Engineer of Record, managing project scopes, and guiding the development of junior engineers and designers within a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Quality Assurance Discipline Leadership: Lead and manage the civil/structural engineering scope on assigned projects of various sizes and complexities. Review & Stamping: Ensure the highest technical quality of all discipline deliverables, reviewing and guiding work prepared by team members and acting as the Engineer of Record (stamping designs and documents). Engineering Standards: Develop calculation methods, documentation standards, and innovative design solutions for complex engineering challenges.

Project Execution & Management

Deliverable Preparation: Prepare comprehensive proposals, technical studies, cost estimates, structural calculations, and construction work packages (CWPs). Regulatory Compliance: Maintain full compliance with Canadian codes, standards, and regulatory requirements on all project objectives. Site Inspections: Conduct structural site visits and field investigations to gather critical engineering data and perform analyses.

Collaboration & Mentorship

Stakeholder Management: Collaborate closely with clients, project managers, and other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless project execution and client satisfaction. Team Mentorship: Direct, train, and mentor junior and intermediate engineers and technical drafting staff. Team Culture: Active contributor to a supportive, team-focused environment, showing a willingness to assist others and take on tasks beyond the immediate role scope when necessary.

Experience & Qualifications

Industry Experience: A minimum of 10+ years of dedicated engineering design experience, preferably within the industrial, oil and gas, and infrastructure sectors. Education: Bachelor’s Degree (minimum) in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution. Professional Registration: Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA, with the clear ability to stamp deliverables as the Engineer of Record. Legal Status: Legally permitted to work in Canada (Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or holding a valid work permit).

Skills & Attributes

Software Tools: Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, RISA 3D, and 2D/3D CAD design tools. Communication: Exceptional English oral and written communication skills coupled with strong interpersonal abilities. Organizational Strengths: Highly organized, decisive, and adaptable, with a strong ability to manage multiple competing priorities and solve complex problems.
