Job Description: Under the direction of a Manager and as part of the

interdisciplinary team, the Community Mental Health Nurse provides a complex range of screening, triage, assessment, treatment and case coordination services to a community mental health and addictions population The incumbent provides program consultation and co-ordination, evaluation of clinical interventions, supervision, preceptor students in formal clinical practicum, and provides professional and public education regarding mental health and addiction issues and resources. The incumbent will provide nursing leadership and clinical expertise in the development and maintenance of community mental health and addiction treatment programs and ensure nursing practice standards are maintained.

Education

• Graduate from school of general nursing with training in psychiatric nursing

Experience

• Must have min 2 yrs post grad recent recognized mental health & addiction exp

• Ability to collect, record, report comprehensive client information accurately
• Able to work independently in a self-motivated manner & respond under pressure
• Knowledge in various intervention strategies for individuals and groups
• Highly developed written and oral communication skills
• Ability to enter and retrieve data in computer database systems
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Knowledge and practical application of the Mental Health Services Act
• Demonstrated leadership skills, workload management and administration skills.
• Excellent consultation & public relation skills
• Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships.
• Excellent knowledge and skills related to community psychiatric nursing practice
• Demonstrated approaches to problem solving w/strong decision-making capability
• Work collaboratively w/ a multidisciplinary team & other agencies in the community

Other Education and Training

• Current registration w/College of Reg Psych Nurses of SK (CRPNS) required

• Requires a valid driver’s license. May require access to a vehicle for work.
