Dental Assistant - Dental Assistant 2 (AESES)

Existing Budget-Funded Continuing Full-Time

35.00 hours/week Monday to Friday, 8:30 - 4:30 pm

Salary Range: $22.91 - $31.34 per hour ($41,696.20 - $57,038.80 per annum)

Proposed Start Date: January 19, 2026

Trial/Probation Period: 840.00 work hours

Responsibilities:

  • Provides dental assisting services to a dentist, dental hygienist and/or dental students who are involved with the delivery of dental procedures on-site, using mobile dental equipment in non-dental clinical settings in various personal care home (PCH) facilities.

  • Ensures patient chart and laboratory work is available and ensures consent, estimate forms and payment are in order.

  • Prepares instruments, portable equipment and/or sets up operatories and dental materials for required procedure.

  • Ensures the sterilization of necessary instruments and equipment is performed.

  • Takes and processes X-rays as required.

  • Maintains inventory of supplies in operatories and mobile vans and orders all dental supplies using EPIC.

  • Arranges for service/repair of dental equipment and/or van.

  • Arranges for pick-up and delivery of laboratory work.

  • Performs intra-oral duties and procedures under supervision of the dentist.

  • Liaison with PCH facilities, nursing staff/DLC wards, patient and Legally Acceptable Representative (LAR) (Power of Attorney).

  • Works with undergrad dental, dental hygiene and dental assisting students.

  • Ensures WHMIS binder is kept up to date with current MSDS sheets.

  • Maintains and coordinates appointment book schedule for dentists, dental students and/or dental hygienists for DLC, using ClearDent patient management software.

  • Follows-up with collection of rejected claims and outstanding accounts.

  • Prepares receipts and enters payments for patient accounts into Cleardent for DLC.

  • Balances and prepares deposits for cashier's office.

  • Enters patient information and treatment into Cleardent.

  • Prepares proper records for submission and collection of claims/preauthorization's to/from insurance carriers.

  • Assists with office work of the HDCP (e.g. booking appointments, answering telephone, entering patient treatment into ClearDent etc.

  • Responsible to comply with university policies and procedures as well as responsible to comply with PHIA, FIPPPA and PCI policies and procedures as it relates to personal and financial information.

  • May be required to perform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:

  • Successful completion of Level II from a recognized Dental Assisting program.

  • Must be registered with the Manitoba Dental Association.

  • Must hold a current CPR certificate

EXPERIENCE:

  • One year of related experience in a dental office is required.

  • Experience working with insurance forms, billing and collection of patient accounts is required.

  • Experience working with medically/physically compromised patients and working with Geriatric clients is an asset.

  • Proficiency in patient management software and attention to detail is required.

  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Capable of carrying/transporting dental equipment weighing up to 50 lbs is required.

  • Ability to communicate well with staff, students and the public in a pleasant and efficient manner is required.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records is required.

  • Ability to multi-task and complete required tasks within a specified time frame is required.

  • Ability to be flexible in the workplace and be a team player is required.

  • PHIA compliant is required.

  • Manitoba Driver's License is required.

  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
