Responsibilities and goals associated with the position
The Assistant Instructor and Lifeguard will teach swimming lesson techniques and guard the pool with an Instructor – Lifeguard.
The Instructor and Lifeguard will teach swimming lesson techniques, as well as lifeguard the pool.
Departmental mission:
The mission of the Culture, Sports, Leisure and Community Development Department is to improve quality of life by promoting accessibility, participation, and integration of all citizens through the provision of excellent community, cultural, sports and recreational facilities, activities, and services.
General responsibilities and goals:
Assistant Lifeguard and Instructor responsibilities
The jobholder’s main responsibilities are as follows:

Assist with guarding the pool

Teach swimming techniques
-
Complete student assessments according to the Olympic Way program

Communicate with parents as necessary.

Attend all staff trainings and meetings.

Ensure that the equipment necessary for activities is in place and available.

Performs all other related duties.
Lifeguard and Instructor responsibilities
The jobholder’s main responsibilities are as follows:
- Guard the pool
- Be responsible for the safety and security of our clients.
- Teach swimming techniques.
- Complete student assessments according to the programmed offered.
- Communicate with clients and parents as necessary.
- Attend all staff trainings and meetings.
- Ensure that the equipment necessary for activities is in place and available.
- Performs all other related duties.
Job requirements:
Requirements - Assistant Lifeguard and Instructor
- Valid Bronze Cross award
- Bilingual (English and French spoken and written)
- The job requires less than six (6) months of experience.
- Olympic Way instructor certificate or equivalent to be completed within the first six (6)
months of employment
Requirements – Lifeguard and Instructor
- Valid National Lifeguard award
- Olympic Way instructor certificate or equivalent to be completed within the first six (6) months of employment
- Bilingual (English and French spoken and written)
- The job requires less than six (6) months of experience.
Schedule:
Variable hours. Minimum of 8 hours per week during the fall session, days, evenings and weekends.
