Red Deer Polytechnic’s School of Health & Wellness is currently inviting applications for Diagnostic Medical Sonography Instructors!
The generalist Diagnostic Medical Sonography Diploma program is a new two-year diploma that prepares graduates to become Diagnostic Medical Sonographers following graduation and successful completion Sonography Canada credentialing exams. This program provides exceptional opportunities to work closely with students, faculty, and staff in an innovative, supportive environment that promotes creativity, scholarship and commitment to student success.

Sessional Instructor (Fulltime/Temporary):
- Our Sessional Instructor will work full-time from December to mid August 2026 on an 8.5 month contract.
- This role is ideal for those looking to jump into teaching and make an impact on the Sonography program.
Part-Time Instructor(s):
- Our Part-Time Instructor(s) have a variety of start/end dates.
- This role is ideal for those looking to try out teaching for a short period of time.

Position Responsibilities
Responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to):

Teaching students in classroom and/or lab settings with flexibility for both face to face and online course delivery.

Creating a stimulating, effective, and learner-centered environment.
-
Preparing, reviewing and/or updating course material.
-
Marking, grading, and evaluation of student work.
-
Creating program documents and handbooks that provide needed information for students and program-partners
-
Participating in the logistical coordination of clinical practicums
-
Providing ongoing feedback, guidance, and assistance to students.
-
Actively contributing and participating in program planning, curriculum development & review, project work, and scholarly activity.
-
Participating in School and Polytechnic wide initiatives and/or committees.
-
Upholding the Professional Responsibilities of Faculty at RDP which are described within the Faculty Performance Policy.
-
Demonstrating and promoting RDP organizational values and following RDP policies and practices.
Required Qualifications
-
Diploma in Diagnostic Medical Sonography AND a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline
-
Current registration as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in good standing with Sonography Canada
-
Recent clinical / practical experience
-
Excellent communication, public relations and interpersonal skills
-
Passion for teaching, ability to inspire students, and commitment to student learning and success
-
Ability to work effectively in a variety of team environments
-
Proven commitment to continuous learning and reflective practice
-
All applicable areas of expertise and specialization will be considered. However, we are especially interested in applicants with generalist experience in both hospital and community sonography departments.
Preferred Qualifications
-
At least 5 years of experience as a sonographer in a clinical setting

Additional experience and education in the field.

Experience teaching in a post-secondary environment.

Compensation is determined by the highest academic credential received and related experience. Please see theCurrent FARDP Full-Time and Part-Time Faculty Grids**.**The Faculty Association at Red Deer Polytechnic (FARDP) and the related Collective Agreementalso provides information on compensation for Instructors at RDP.
Sessional (Fulltime/Temporary)
- Receive paid time off between Christmas and New Year general holidays as well as 8% of their gross salary in lieu of vacation.
- Eligible for a comprehensive health and dental benefits package, including a Health Spending Account.
- Eligible for individual professional development funding, additional free professional development opportunities offered through the institution, and tuition free classes.
Part-Time Instructor(s):
- Receive an additional 14% of their gross salary in lieu of benefits and vacation pay.
- Part-time instructors are not eligible for comprehensive health and dental benefits packages.
- Eligible for individual professional development funding, additional free professional development opportunities offered through the institution.
Eligibility to access the above mentioned benefits is dependent upon the FARDP Collective Agreement and related RDP policies.
