Career Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Foreperson, Elevating Devices to support our Plant Maintenance team!
This position requires you to plan, schedule direct, and control maintenance activities within the department. The incumbent supervises and instructs unionized employees and/or contractors on safe work methods and habits. They may conduct training sessions, investigations, inspections and quality audits. The role also entails administrative tasks such as timekeeping, preparing and maintaining records, generating reports, summaries, etc. related to the work.
What You Will Do
- Direct supervision over the running and heavy maintenance work performed on TTC’s various elevating devices.
- Supervise and inspect the cleaning, modification, overhaul, maintenance and repair work on electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic components of the Commission's various elevating devices.
- Follow-up on all preventative maintenance and repair requirements with other Forepersons.
- Direct and supervise work for annual inspection of all elevating devices by the Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA) and work required through directives issued by the TSSA.
- Ensure that work is carried out safely and in accordance with standard practices and applicable codes.
- Provide material and labour cost estimates for jobs.
- Notify Industrial Maintenance Control and other stakeholders of escalator outages and scheduled work on a daily basis.
- Report call crew response time and escalator availability using the Real Time Monitoring System.
- Investigate accidents and keep accurate records of them.
- Identify equipment and non-equipment failures causing injuries and other incidents and preparing and submitting mandatory reports to TSSA.
- Inspect and monitor the section's use of rooms and shops in the subway system for proper storage of parts, general housekeeping, etc., on a routine basis.
- Promotes a respectful work and service environment that supports diversity, inclusion, and is free from harassment and discrimination. What Qualifications Do You Bring?
- Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
- A Certificate of Qualification as an Escalator Mechanic or its equivalent, or completion of the Canadian Elevator Industry Educational Program (CEIEP) is considered an asset.
- Extensive technical knowledge combined with several years of extensive practical and progressive experience in elevating devices.
- Ability to comprehend blueprints, reading, writing, and mathematical skills which would normally be acquired through the equivalency of technical school graduation.
- Sound judgement, good organizational, problem solving, oral and written communications skills, and the ability to supervise a unionized workforce; must demonstrate an understanding of how these skills are utilized in a maintenance/repair environment.
- Thorough knowledge of the Elevating Devices Act and Regulations, the B-44 Safety Code for elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters and moving walkways, and be able to reference areas of the CSA/B 355 Safety Code applicable to elevating devices for persons with disabilities.
- Understand Quality/Continuous Improvement concepts and knowledge of Project Management principles would be an asset.
- A valid, non-probationary Class “G” driver’s licence.
- Must attend and successfully complete in-house training programs for Subway/SRT Rule Book & WHMIS, effective supervision and any other technical/supervisory courses related to the work.
- Must be computer literate, able to quickly acquire a working knowledge of systems pertinent to the section's work activities such as, but not limited to the Escalator Monitoring System and Maximo.
- Must have or rapidly acquire knowledge of the Local 113 Collective Agreement, Maintenance Seniority Regulations, and other regulations and legislation pertinent to duties and responsibilities such as, but not limited to the Occupational Health & Safety Act, etc.
- Successful applicant will be required to obtain an Elevating Devices Safety Certificate prior to starting in the position if it has not yet been obtained.
- Elevating Device Mechanic Class F (EDM-F) certification or higher is considered an asset.
