Job Description: The Emergency Medical Technician/Primary Care Paramedic is responsible for responding to emergent and non- emergent calls for service; provides initial assessment, treatment of ill or injured persons at the basic life support level and provide medical coverage for assessment and care at the Primary Health Care - Intermediate Care Services.

Education

  • Grade 12

Licenses

  • Valid Class 4 driver's license
  • Registered Emergency Medical Technician/Primary Care Paramedic (EMT/PCP)

Other Education and Training

  • Health Care Provider Level C Certificate (HCP-C)
  • Automated External Defibrillator Certificate (AED)
  • International Trauma Life Support Certificate (ITLS)
  • Emergency Vehicle Operations training

  • High level interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients and colleagues

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge, application and operation of equipment related to the practice of EMS
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Work with highly stressed individuals and in high stressful environments
  • Thorough knowledge of the SHA and EMS policies and procedures
