About the role
Position Overview As a Treaty Specialist, you’ll transform treaty language into our internal systems to ensure accuracy and compliance. In this role, you’ll also ensure the outcome of your work results in precise reporting that contributes to the delivery of reliable financial results while working closely and in collaboration with actuarial, underwriting, claims and finance to deliver insights and operational improvements. You will also play a key analytical role in identifying operational inefficiencies, recommending improvements, and enhancing end to end treaty processes.
Your Role: Treaty Setup & Administration
- Responsible for the end-to-end set-up of treaties and defining all critical terms within the treaty system, for various products (Life, Health, Group, Financial Reinsurance, Longevity, Retrocession, etc.).
- Interpret treaty language to assess operational impacts, data requirements, and system configuration needs.
- Validate treaty parameters, retention limits, and financial terms for accuracy and compliance.
- Maintain and update mapping to internal treaty databases, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency of key data fields.
- Analyze and resolve cession records that don’t meet treaty terms by identifying root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Support the implementation of data quality rules and controls, tracking and resolving data-quality issues in collaboration with business and technical teams.
- Coordinate and oversee integration between treaty systems and other platforms to ensure smooth data flow and alignment with business needs.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, documentation, and controls for treaty setup.
- Create clear reports highlighting risks, dependencies, and process gaps to help management make informed decisions.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Business Partnering
- Collaborate with pricing, actuarial, underwriting, claims, finance, legal, and IT teams to resolve data issues, clarify requirements, and deliver on business objectives.
- Act as an operational advisor, translating treaty terms into actionable steps and raising considerations for decision-making.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert on treaties, supporting internal teams and external partners with operational impacts of treaty changes.
- Partner with finance to set up treaties in the system for timely quarter-end reporting.
- Collaborate with Marketing throughout the treaty lifecycle—from Letter of Intent to amendments and closure.
- Coordinate with US Treaty Team and Canadian Pricing Team to ensure new deals and amendments are entered on time and reflected in operations for accurate reporting.
- Prepare and deliver presentations, documentation, and updates for management and external partners.
- Support internal and external audits by providing clear documentation of treaty terms, processes, and data flows.
Future-Focused Innovation & AI/ML Integration
- Explore and implement AI/ML tools to automate treaty setup and analysis where appropriate.
- Identify opportunities for predictive analytics, anomaly detection, and automated reconciliation to improve efficiency and outcomes.
Your Profile:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Insurance or related discipline.
- 2-3 years of experience in treaty administration, reinsurance operations, or data analysis roles.
- Understanding of treaty structures, retention limits, and insurance products
- Proficient with SQL and relational databases.
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables; Power Query/Power Pivot a plus).
- Familiarity with reinsurance administration systems and/or data warehouse environments is an asset.
- Experience in Master Data management to ensure data integrity, consistency and governance across systems.
