The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN), or the T’exelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today, the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane, in nearby Williams Lake, BC, and across the globe.

POSITION

As part of the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) team, the incumbent will effectively provide maintenance services using strong diagnostic, repair, and organization skills to coordinate repairs, purchase supplies, schedule preventative maintenance, and report on specific issues for buildings and facilities. This role requires a self-starter and organized individual who is an excellent communicator and can work well in a team environment.

Employment Type

Full time, 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm with a one-hour unpaid lunch).

Probation Period

3 months from the date of hire.

Education Required

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Experience Required

  • Minimum 6 months to 1-year maintenance or related experience

Overtime Status

Non-exempt.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs day-to-day maintenance duties for all assigned buildings, developing an organized approach to repairs and scheduling preventative maintenance.

  • Collects and removes garbage and recyclable materials and ensures the safe disposal of hazardous waste.

  • Ensures building and equipment meet all safety, security, and fire regulations and policies. Make recommendations for major repairs and purchases to the O&M Supervisor.

  • Performs minor gardening and lawn maintenance tasks such as mowing, weeding, pruning, and watering.

  • Assist other team members in their duties to ensure timely and complete delivery of service to our clients.

  • Transports equipment, furniture, and supplies manually and/or using aids such as dollies and carts. Operates a motor vehicle to pick up and move goods and supplies. Arrange furniture for special events.

  • Act in various capacities, supporting maintenance in general terms.

  • Complete and maintain related records such as maintenance logs and security incident reports.

  • Keep repair tools and supplies clean and organized.

  • Conduct routine maintenance on equipment and building systems.

  • Respond to and complete tenant, O&M Manager, and Housing maintenance requests.

  • Act as a customer service advocate, accelerating the resolution of customer concerns.

  • Ensure a safe work environment is always maintained with a commitment to working safely.

  • Collaborate with workers and other professionals during renovations.

Skills and Abilities

  • Will require a good level of physical fitness and the ability to use basic hand tools.

  • Ability and willingness to stand and walk throughout the day, as well as work in inclement weather.

  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and other manuals and documents.

  • Able to work in all weather conditions.

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

Today, the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane, in nearby Williams Lake, BC, and across the globe. One of 17 Secwepemc nations forming Secwepemculecw, the greater stewardship land area extends from Shuswap Lake in the south, to Quesnel Lake in the north, and from Columbia-Kootenay Range in the east, to the Alexis Creek area in the west. Since time immemorial, our Kukpi7s (Chiefs) led a strong people, and they do so today.

Today we have 786 band members and our population is growing. 233 members currently live on reserve, 511 live off reserve and 42 live on another reserve. Our band members include teachers, lawyers, social workers, artists, loggers, ranchers, and entrepreneurs. We honour our Elders and treasure our children. Our families are deeply important to us. We value our past and look towards our future.
