Our Client

We have partnered with a growing infrastructure contractor that is committed to building projects safely, responsibly, and with the highest standards of quality. On their behalf, are seeking a Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Coordinator who is passionate about creating safe workplaces and supporting field operations across a diverse portfolio of civil construction projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for an HSE professional looking to expand their experience while working alongside experienced construction leaders on complex infrastructure projects.

The Role

Reporting to the HSE leadership team, the HSE Coordinator will work closely with project managers, superintendents, supervisors, employees, and subcontractors to ensure health, safety, and environmental standards are consistently maintained across active construction sites.

The successful candidate will be highly visible in the field, providing guidance, conducting inspections, supporting training initiatives, and helping foster a proactive safety culture throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Promote a strong safety culture by providing ongoing coaching and support to project teams. Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and hazard assessments to verify compliance with company standards and applicable legislation. Assist with the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health, safety, and environmental programs. Ensure construction activities comply with provincial health and safety legislation, environmental requirements, and industry best practices. Investigate workplace incidents, near misses, and safety concerns while identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions. Support project teams with hazard identification, risk assessments, safe work planning, and job hazard analyses. Deliver site orientations and participate in employee and subcontractor safety training. Coordinate ongoing safety education, certification tracking, and regulatory compliance requirements. Lead or support toolbox talks, safety meetings, and site communications that reinforce safe work practices. Maintain accurate documentation related to inspections, training records, corrective actions, incidents, and compliance activities. Monitor HSE performance metrics and prepare reports for leadership. Participate in emergency preparedness planning, drills, and response activities. Assist with return-to-work and injury management initiatives where required. Support internal and external audits while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. Participate in inspections of specialized safety equipment and ensure required documentation remains current. Build strong working relationships with employees, supervisors, subcontractors, and clients while serving as a trusted safety resource.

Qualifications

1-4 years of experience in a Health, Safety & Environment role within construction, heavy civil, industrial, or infrastructure projects. Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or a related discipline is considered an asset. Working knowledge of Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and applicable construction regulations. Familiarity with Certificate of Recognition (COR), environmental management systems, and industry best practices is an asset. Professional designations such as CRSP, NCSO, CSP, or equivalent are considered assets. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build credibility at all levels of the organization. Comfortable working both in the field and in an office environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office and digital reporting systems. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
