Hiring Range: $90,000 - $105,000 (plus additional compensation incentives such as bonus, pension, and more)

Reporting to the Senior Director, Finance, the Manager, Accounting will oversee the accounting operations for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation (PMCF) and lead a team of finance professionals. This role is responsible for the full end-to-end accounting cycle, including areas such as cash management, accounts payable, deferred accounts, month-end and year-end close. Responsibilities also include leading regulatory filings, such as the T3010 Registered Charity Information Return to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and reporting to the Alcohol Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). The Manager, Accounting will lead the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with GAAP and serve as the primary contact for external audits. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity of the Foundation’s financial reporting and driving process improvements to support operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of finance professionals, driving high-quality deliverables and effective performance management.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the accounting function, including cash management, revenue recognition, accounts payable, deferred accounts, general ledger, month end close, and year end close.
  • Perform and review journal entries, in accordance with ASPNO and GAAP.
  • Conduct the monthly balance sheet analysis, account reconciliations, and provide commentary over variances.
  • Prepare the annual internal event accounting and external GAAP financial statements, ensuring the accurate translation of our financial statements across both reporting standards.
  • Apply and maintain financial policies, ensuring timely updates for compliance and relevance.
  • Develop and maintain policy and procedure documentation, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely updates to reflect changes in approach.
  • Lead the external audit process as the primary point of contact, ensuring timely and accurate communication with auditors.
  • Manage regulatory reporting to the CRA and AGCO, including the preparation of HST/GST returns, T3010 filings, T4a filings, annual surveys, and lottery financial statements.
  • Safeguard the integrity of financial records within the NetSuite, ensuring data is accurate and processes operate within a robust control environment.
  • Identify and implement best practices within the finance department, including electronic workflow, digitization, job documentation, and other efficiencies.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to staff, auditors, vendors, service providers, and banking partners to ensure efficient and effective financial management operations.
  • Support key projects in the Finance area.
  • Provide support as required by the Senior Director, Finance, and VP, Finance.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • A CPA designation is mandatory , preferably with a university degree in accounting or finance.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience managing the full end-to-end accounting cycle.
  • Leadership experience overseeing a team of finance professionals.
  • Proven experience working for a Canadian not-for-profit, with in-depth knowledge of accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations (ASNPO).
  • Experience leading and supporting a financial statement audit.

Knowledge, Skill, Abilities:

  • Experience working with NetSuite (Oracle) is an asset.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft tools, especially Excel.
