Student Research Assistant - Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering *Amended*
About the role
The Future Urban and Energy Lab for Sustainability (FUEL-S) at the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE) invites applications for an Undergraduate Student Research Assistant to support a project focused on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations, GIS mapping, vegetation analysis, and infrastructure resilience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in building and running CFD simulations of wind flow around trees and buildings using OpenFOAM/ANSYS or similar software
- Process and visualize GIS data for the PEI case study municipalities
- Support wind tunnel experimental testing, including preparation of scaled prototypes and data collection
- Conduct literature reviews on vegetation parameters and their effects on wind loading
- Assist in summarizing and visualizing results for community stakeholder presentations and research reports
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Sustainable Design Engineering or a related field
- Proficiency in at least one scripting or data analysis tool (Python, MATLAB, or similar)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail in design work
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and meet project deadlines
- Familiarity with 3D modeling tools will be an asset
