About the role
What you will do: The Accountant is responsible for supporting the organization’s financial operations through accurate preparation, analysis, and reporting of financial information. This role ensures compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements while contributing to efficient month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end processes.
This is a hybrid position (3 days in-office per week). Office location is 1303 Yonge Street, Toronto.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate journal entries, maintain general ledger integrity, and support month‑end, quarter-end and year‑end close activities.
- Perform timely and accurate reconciliations for key accounts, investigate variances, and analyze results to ensure completeness, accuracy, and integrity of financial information.
- Analyze financial results, trends, and variances to identify insights, risks, and opportunities, and provide data‑driven recommendations that support decision‑making.
- Partner with internal teams (e.g., FP&A, Operations, Payroll, Marketing) to provide financial support, education stakeholders on financial reporting processes, resolve issues, and ensure accurate and timely flow of financial information.
- Identify and implement efficiencies in financial reporting processes and build automated processes using RPA tools such as Power Automate.
- Complete ongoing professional development required by CPA Canada.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education with focus on Business and/or Accounting
- Professional Designation (CPA) candidate or enrollment in program
- 1 to 3 years of progressive experience in either a full-cycle accounting environment or public accounting
- Proficient with Microsoft applications, including advanced Excel skills and proficiency with PowerPoint, Power Automate, Power BI and an aptitude for continuous learning and process improvement
- Experience with PeopleSoft accounting system is preferred
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Reporting Standards (IFRS)
- Knowledge of general ledger structures, financial reporting cycles, and internal control frameworks
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Understanding of balance sheet and income statement components, account classifications, and variance drivers
- Management reporting experience and the ability to evaluate performance on both financial and non-financial measures
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines
