Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Golf Course Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent is involved in all aspects of golf course operations, including agronomic practices, irrigation management, staff leadership, and daily course presentation. This role requires precision, initiative, and a desire to contribute beyond the baseline expectations of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the golf course to exceptionally high championship standards
  • Ensure full compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations and Club policies
  • Fertilizer and pesticide applications
  • Irrigation troubleshooting, repair, and water management strategy
  • Assist in implementation and advancement of the IPM program
  • Monitor and optimize soil moisture and plant health
  • Supervise, mentor, and motivate staff
  • Oversee daily course setup

A Transformational Opportunity

Granite Golf Club is embarking on a comprehensive greens resurfacing and bunker renovation project under the direction of original architect Thomas McBroom. The project will commence in mid-August and is scheduled for completion in July 2027. This multi-year initiative represents a rare opportunity for a turf professional to gain meaningful, hands-on experience in:

  • Greens reconstruction and grow-in
  • Bunker redesign and performance enhancements
  • Construction coordination and contractor collaboration
  • Advanced agronomic planning
  • Maintaining championship standards throughout renovation

The successful candidate will play a key role in executing this project while upholding the daily conditioning standards expected at a top-tier private club.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Turfgrass Management or related field
  • Relevant golf course maintenance management experience
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Self-starter capable of working independently and within a team
  • Flexible schedule including early mornings, weekends, and holidays
  • Landscape Exterminator license and IPM accreditation
  • Chainsaw certification
