Job Posting: #26-66 Status: Permanent, Full-time Posting Closes: July 8, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. Schedule: 35 hours/week (7 hours/day)

Working within Fire Services and reporting to the Fire Chief, the Deputy Fire Chief, Strategic Services oversees the administration of business planning, budget development, and technology strategy for Parkland County Fire Services. This position ensures effective use of data and technology to enhance service delivery and organizational performance with a strong focus on public service and continuous improvement. The Deputy Fire Chief is also responsible for assisting in the day-to-day administration, training, and operational needs of the department, including equipment lifecycle management and the development, implementation and maintenance of standard operating guidelines. This position participates in a rotating Chief-on-call schedule and fosters a collaborative and respectful environment while providing leadership during emergency response, demonstrating sound decision making and a commitment to public and department safety.

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following: High School Diploma with some post-secondary coursework in Emergency Services, Fire Sciences or a related field. Successful completion of a post-secondary diploma or degree in Emergency Services, Fire Sciences or Emergency Management is considered an asset. 5 (five) to 7 (seven) years of experience in emergency services within a career or combination fire service environment, with strong knowledge of incident command, emergency response operations and organizational readiness. Proven ability to lead and contribute to strategic planning initiatives and align departmental priorities with organizational goals. Demonstrated experience developing, analyzing and managing key performance indicators, budgets, and financial forecasting to support data driven decision making. Strong leadership skills with experience providing mentorship, guidance, and operational oversight, fostering a collaborative, respectful and safety focused environment. Technical proficiency in a range of software and database applications, combined with strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to deliver effective presentations to diverse audiences. The following Minimum and Preferred Certifications:

Minimum NFPA Standard 1041 – Instructor, Level 1 NFPA Standard 1001 – Firefighter, Level 2 Standard First Aid Level C and CPR

Preferred NFPA Standard 1002 – Apparatus Operator NFPA Standard 1021 – Fire Officer (Level 1) NFPA Standard 1031 – Fire Inspector (Level 1) NFPA Standard 1033 – Fire Investigator (Level 1) NFPA Standard 1041 – Instructor (Level 2) Project Management Professional (PMP) Certified as a Safety Codes Officer Investigator Level I and Inspector Level I

Requirements: Ability to primarily work in-person at Parkland County Fire Station, 11350 274 St. Acheson, AB T7X 5A3. A valid class 3 with Q endorsement driver’s license and current, satisfactory commercial driver’s abstract provided upon hire. A satisfactory Criminal Record Check, with vulnerable sector check is required upon hire, excluding candidates under the age of 18 and current Parkland County employees. Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

A Starting Salary of: $121,700 to $136,900 per year Max Salary Potential: $153,900 per year
