Are you an experienced utility operations professional with strong control room, SCADA Programming, and NERC Compliance expertise? Join our Utility Distribution Systems team and play a key role in supporting the safe, reliable operation of City-owned electric transmission and distribution infrastructure. In this highly skilled role, you'll provide SCADA control, switching coordination, operational communications, and compliance support that help keep essential services running for our community.

A closer look at the role

In this role, you will monitor and operate the City's SCADA and electrical systems to support the safe, reliable operation of electric transmission and distribution infrastructure. You'll respond to alarms and abnormal conditions, coordinate outages and switching activities with field crews, execute switching orders, and maintain accurate real-time operational records. You'll also support AESO compliance activities, maintain required documentation, and liaise with internal and external stakeholders as needed. Standby participation is required.

What you bring

You are a calm, technically strong operator who can work effectively under pressure and communicate clearly in a safety-sensitive environment.

You bring:

  • Strong working knowledge of SCADA, OMS, and control room operations.
  • Experience coordinating switching orders and worker protection requests with operational crews.
  • Working knowledge of AESO legislation and regulations and the Alberta Electrical Utility Code.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to perform effectively in a safety-sensitive, high-pressure environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and other network-based applications.
  • A strong commitment to safety, accuracy, and sound operational judgment.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Power System Electrician Certificate or Engineering Technologist diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Seven (7) years' experience as a Journeyman Power Systems Electrician or Engineering Technologist with experience related to the construction, operations, maintenance and design of electric distribution systems.
  • Ability to Obtain NERC Certified Transmission Operator required.
  • Experience in control room, operations, and SCADA would be an asset.
  • A management approved combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
  • This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen, which includes testing for cannabis use.
