About the role
The Data Science and Advanced Analytics (DSAA) team at Unity Health Toronto (UHT) is an advanced healthcare data analytics group that uses scientifically rigorous methods to conduct meaningful analyses that generate data-driven insights so clinicians and management can make better decisions, increase hospital efficiency, and improve patient care. The DSAA team generates analytics solutions using specialized approaches such as machine learning for the purpose of deployment into practice and use by end-users such as clinicians and administrative decision-makers.
The Product Manager will manage the work required for the planning, development, implementation and ongoing maintenance of DSAA analytics solutions custom built for UHT clinical stakeholders. They will use their communication and organization skills in tandem with technical knowledge to manage teams and develop solution timelines, conduct clinical workflow analysis and lead solution deployment and coordinate their maintenance in a way that adheres to IT, hospital and DSAA standards.
The Product manager reviews project intake forms and works with form submitters to refine and build out project details at a high level. They work with representatives from the Advanced Analytics, Product Development and Data Integration and Governance teams to assess technical feasibility and anticipated impact.
The Product manager applies a scrum/agile framework to project planning in order to move projects through iterative design and build cycles quickly and efficiently with frequent collaboration and communication with clinical stakeholders.
Duties and responsibilities
- Work closely with representatives from Product Development (PD), Data Integration and Governance (DIG) and Advanced Analytics (AA) teams to break down high level milestones into a detailed activity list
- Set project and activity due dates and balance priorities across projects/products within DSAA product families
- Prep and run reoccurring product family sprint meetings, which includes sprint preplanning with the team leads, sprint planning and activity sizing with the product family team, regular check-ins to track sprint list task progress, and finally end of sprint retrospectives to help their product families iteratively improve on sprint processes. These sprint cycles reoccur in 2 week blocks and the product manager will be accountable for ensuring that the activities selected for the short term sprint cycles are prioritized in a way that long term project milestones are met
- Prepare required product/project documentation for each DSAA initiative.
- Work closely with clinical stakeholders and end users to ensure product fit.
- Ability to apply common business skills and techniques to understand a product's internal and external value, identify risks and opportunities, and identify and measure success metrics.
- Engage with the development team, clinical collaborators and end users throughout the product lifecycle, as well as with clinical collaborators for conducting gap analysis deep dives, for supporting change management processes and motivating clinical collaborators to champion implementation and product uptake.
- Provide project management support to one of the Directors in DSAA (AA, PD, or DIG) to ensure timely delivery of critical operational initiatives, in the areas of data environment set-up, hardware and software acquisition, human resource recruitment and other activities targeting team skill advancement.
- Work with Directors to draw up initiative timelines and break down larger goals into more manageable activity lists.
- Engage with internal and external vendors and stakeholders as needed.
- Helpto balance operations priorities with project/product development priorities
- Assist with operations initiatives documentation and reporting
- Follow strict compliance with patient/employee confidentiality practices and policies
- Follow strict compliance with patient/employee safety practices and standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in a related field required Healthcare, Computer Science, Engineering, Clinical Informatics
- Master¿s degree in a related field preferred (Healthcare, Computer Science, Engineering, Clinical Informatics)
- 3 or more years¿ experience applying a scrum/agile framework to project management (sprints, retrospectives, minimum viable product (MVP) development) required
- 3+ years¿ experience of Project Management Institute (PMI) project management project planning documentation
- 3+ years¿ experience working in a healthcare related environment preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and able to work with a diversity of healthcare professionals required
- Knowledge of the development of advanced analytics models, software and data pipelines to understand how these three areas intersect and diverge through the project lifecycle preferred
- Knowledge of and experience with hospital IT department roles, responsibilities and processes preferred
- Knowledge of CRISP-DM documentation framework for analytic project documentation best practices preferred
- Excellent project management skills. Project management professional designation preferred
