As the Leader, Systems, you will manage and oversee the successful execution of all systems related scope for the Green Line LRT - SE Project. This role is accountable for ensuring that traction power, signaling, train control, communications, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), testing, commissioning, and revenue service activities are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with engineering standards and regulatory requirements.

Reporting to the Manager, Systems/Track, you will provide leadership across the full lifecycle of systems delivery from design and construction through testing, commissioning, and handover while coordinating closely with the Delivery Partner, designer, contractors, regulatory agencies, utilities, and internal City business units to ensure seamless system integration and interface management.

Primary duties include:

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of all systems work, including traction power systems, signaling and train control, communications, SCADA, and overhead catenary systems.
  • Oversee the design, construction, testing, commissioning, and transition to revenue service for all systems scope.
  • Manage procurement, tendering, and contract administration for systems related to professional services and construction packages.
  • Monitor budgets, schedules, risks, and performance indicators, and develop mitigation strategies to address cost, schedule, technical, and interface risks.
  • Provide engineering and technical oversight to ensure compliance with City of Calgary standards, APEGA requirements, and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Coordinate interfaces between systems scope and other project disciplines, contractors, utilities, and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Manage consultant, Delivery Partner, and contractor performance to ensure quality, safety, and contractual compliance.
  • Support issue resolution, risk management, and strategic decision making related to systems integration.
  • Prepare progress reports, dashboards, briefings, and updates for senior leadership and project partners.
  • Lead, mentor, and support the development of assigned staff, fostering a collaborative, safety focused, and high-performance culture.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Civil Engineering, construction management, or a related field and at least 8 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work.   • At least 5 years of systems related experience in projects involving LRT.
  • Experience in risk management and quality control, and a thorough understanding of project management processes and methodologies.
  • Proven track record of delivering large-scale infrastructure projects, with experience in project planning, design, and delivery.
  • Strong understanding of Rail & Transit, infrastructure integration, with a passion for creating cohesive and functional city environments.

Compensation: Level M2E $151,858 - 189,822 per annum

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week.

Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
