About the role

Overview:

Kimley-Horn is seeking an experienced Senior Transportation Engineer to join our growing Toronto office, with a focus on public sector roadway and corridor projects. This is a leadership opportunity for a seasoned professional who thrives on delivering complex municipal infrastructure, advancing corridor design solutions, and partnering with public agencies to shape safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation networks.

Responsibilities:

Lead the infrastructure that moves the GTA

Public Sector Corridor & Roadway Leadership

  • Lead the delivery of municipal and regional roadway corridor projects, including:
    • Complete streets and urban corridor redesigns
    • Road widening, reconstruction, and rehabilitation projects
    • Intersection improvements and safety upgrades
  • Guide projects from functional planning through detailed design, including corridor studies, environmental coordination, and implementation strategies
  • Develop innovative, context-sensitive solutions balancing mobility, safety, transit, and active transportation needs

Design & Technical Oversight

  • Oversee preparation and review of:
    • Corridor plans, geometric design, and cross-sections
    • Intersection design and access management strategies
    • Design reports, technical memoranda, and construction packages
  • Ensure compliance with Ontario standards and guidelines, including:
    • Municipal and regional design criteria (City of Toronto, GTA regions)
    • MTO standards and applicable provincial guidance
  • Coordinate across disciplines (drainage, utilities, signals, streetscape, structures interface)

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to municipal and public sector clients, including cities, regions, and agencies
  • Lead and participate in client meetings, technical reviews, and stakeholder consultations
  • Support collaboration with approval bodies and agencies to advance projects efficiently

Project & Team Leadership

  • Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, and deliverables
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and intermediate staff
  • Contribute to internal quality control and elevate delivery standards across the team

Business Development & Practice Growth

  • Support pursuits, proposals, and client development efforts within the public sector market
  • Help grow Kimley-Horn’s transportation engineering presence in Toronto and across the GTA
  • Strengthen long-term relationships with municipal clients and partners

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (transportation focus preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience in roadway design and corridor delivery, with a strong public sector focus
  • Demonstrated experience delivering projects for municipal and/or provincial clients in Ontario
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex infrastructure projects
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Preferred

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
  • Experience with complete streets, multimodal corridor planning, and urban roadway design
  • Familiarity with GTA municipal processes and standards
  • Experience supporting or leading projects through environmental assessment (EA) processes
  • Proficiency with roadway design tools and CAD-based production workflows
