Web Application Developer (19 months contract)

Headquartered in Toronto, the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) is a national, private, not-for-profit organization committed to high-performance sports excellence. We are the largest private supporter of high-performance sport in Canada and we are responsible for all aspects of Canada’s involvement in the Olympic Movement, including the participation in the Olympic and Pan American Games.

The Canadian Olympic Committee is looking for a Web Application Developer. Reporting to the Manager, IT Business Solutions, the Web Application Developer is responsible for evaluating, designing, developing, coding and testing applications integrated with the Canadian Olympic Committees (COC) internal data and systems. This individual uses industry standard tools, programming languages and processes to deliver solutions to support the business.

LOCATION

This role will be located in one of the COC’s offices (in Montreal, QC, at 500 René-Lévesque Boulevard West; or in Toronto, ON at 250 Yonge St. Suite 3000). We currently offer a hybrid work model that allows for up to two days of remote work each week.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND PRIORITIES

  • Responsible for the administration and maintenance of all COC IT Managed web properties.
  • Lead and/or contribute to the technical side of web application development projects, manage internal/external customer relationships with the business and create solutions to meet business requirements.
  • Design, develop, implement solutions in collaboration with stakeholders to meet business requirements.
  • Perform detailed analysis of business and technical requirements, document requirements, create project plans, and design documents, mock-ups and test cases.
  • Responsible for web-based data collection platform and related stakeholder programs.
  • Lead in the migration of existing web properties (WordPress) to modern data management systems.
  • Responsible for the web accessibility compliance (WCAG 2.0) for public facing properties.
  • Responsible daily operations of all COC IT managed web sites.
  • Maintain clear communications with all stakeholders throughout project lifecycles.
  • Lead in the writing of user procedures and instructions for the implementation of new or modified web applications.
  • Lead on the development and implementation of any training of the staff on End User’s functions.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager, IT Business Solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CRITICAL SKILLS

Education and Experience

  • B.Sc. in Business, Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years of Web development experience.
  • Experience developing web applications using modern framework(s) (Angular, React, Nextjs).
  • Experience with modern development technologies (microservices architecture, distributed services architecture).
  • Experience working with Microsoft Technology Stack (M365, Azure, SharePoint, Power Apps).
  • Demonstrated experience in developing secure, zero-trust, data-driven web applications.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks.
  • Familiar with a variety of the Database & Website concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint, OneDrive, Office 365, Teams technologies and integrations.
  • Strong knowledge of front-end web application development (HTML,CSS, Javascript).
  • Knowledge of applicable accessibility and web-standards (W3C).
  • Sound technical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiar with web application administration (NGINX, APACHE, IIS).
  • Exceptional customer service attitude; results driven with a passion for continuous improvement.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, manage and monitor multiple projects to successful completion and adapt to shifting priorities in a high-pressure environment.
