The City of Delta has a 16 week summer employment opportunity which will run from May 11, 2026 to August 27, 2026, 35 hours per week. Please note that the staffing of the position and its duration are conditional on the approval of the grant application submitted to the Young Canada Works program.

This position is ideal for those who are pursuing a progressive mentoring experience as a heritage and museum professional. They should be entering their final years of study in history, education, Indigenous studies, archaeology, or museum studies or a related program at a recognized university. The candidate should have skills and knowledge and/or an interest in productively engaging with diverse communities. We encourage applications from those with lived experience or from equity seeking groups.

Duties Include:

• Design, develop, and deliver summer pop-up cultural programming in the community
• Support the delivery and evaluation of summer camps at DJHDC
• Contribute towards preparation, marketing, and delivery for a variety of events including Heritage Fair, Museum Fest, Father’s Day, and Canada Day
• Deliver and suggest edits to existing school programs
• Assist with research and development for one new school program and education kit
• Support a new school program already in development in collaboration with Kirkland House Foundation
• Assist with fall program development and marketing
• Assist with fall school program preparation and marketing
• Assist in supervising volunteers in programming tasks
• Perform other related tasks

Requirements:

• Candidates must be registered in the Young Canada Works inventory at https://young-canada-works.canada.ca
• Candidates must be between the ages of 16 and 30.
• Candidates must be a graduate from college, CEGEP or university;
• Preference may be given to those with previous work or volunteer experience in a heritage institution
• Some knowledge of research and analysis techniques.
• Able to assist with program development and delivery for a variety of audiences
• Able to understand and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
• Able to work both independently and in a team environment
• Skill in the operation of computer equipment relating to the work
• Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
• Able to work independently and in a team environment
• Able to work 35 hours a week from Sundays through Thursdays, however, a flexible week may be necessary
• Posess a valid BC class 5 driver’s license and regular access to a vehicle
• Possess a valid First Aid Certificate
