Job Description RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position Summary Department / Research Program: CHHD

Maelstrom Research (maelstrom-research.org) is a scientific platform based at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI MUHC). The team is specialized in the development of methods and software supporting data harmonization and integration processes across epidemiological studies. Maelstrom Research also coordinates the generation of harmonized datasets integrating data across national and international cohort studies. The multidisciplinary team, currently composed of 12 members, is looking for someone who has experience in managing large datasets and is interested in participating in the technical support for the platform’s activities.

General Duties Under the supervision of the Maelstrom Research’s director, the incumbent will perform the following tasks:

  • Achieve technical work related to data management and validation,
  • Provide technical support to the research team,
  • Participate in the development of standard operating procedures and scientific reports.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Validate data provided by external partners,
  • Evaluate the data harmonization potential,
  • Manage and process data,
  • Conduct quality control tests on the data,
  • Prepare data for transfer to external research projects,
  • Participate in the development of tools and methods for data and metadata management and harmonization.

Education / Experience

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Field of Study: Biostatistics, epidemiology, or a related field

Other education considered an asset for this position: Master’s Degree

Work Experience: Years of experience required for the position. 2 years

Required Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of oral French is required.
  • An advanced knowledge of oral and written English is required, as the position requires regular and complex contact with researchers or international students who are exclusively proficient in English.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
  • Ability to work independently or in teams with minimum supervision,
  • Experience in managing and validating data,
  • Proficiency in using R statistical software,
  • Proficiency in using Python statistical software would be an asset,
  • Experience with web technologies (JavaScript, HTML, CSS) would be an asset
  • Experience in harmonizing and integrating data would be an asset,
  • Knowledge in Git would be an asset,
  • Good organization and time management skills, and attention to details,
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Additional information

Status: Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)

Pay Scale: Commensurate with education and experience

Work Shift: Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm

Work Site: MGH, 1650 Cedar Ave.

Hybrid (3 days in office)
