About the Job In accordance with established vision and values of the organization, the Environmental Services Supervisor is responsible for supervising the Environmental Services and Laundry Service operations in the designated facilities. This role operates according to the organizational policies, procedures, standards and department specific protocols.

  • Supervises designated staff by scheduling and co-coordinating work assignments, monitoring completed work, determining related training and orientation requirements, providing feedback to employees and participating in the formal performance evaluation of staff with the Manager.

  • Participates in the recruitment and selection of staff. Monitors employee performance and informs the Manager of any performance issues or skill improvement needs.

  • Maintains workload statistics and production records and implements production standards for individual work areas where necessary; adjusts work assignments as necessary.

  • Monitors and records chemical and linen usage trends, adjusting re-order points as required; resolves discrepancies with suppliers; ensures organization’s contractual purchasing obligations are met and maintains inventory controls. Oversees the preparation and distribution of supplies.

  • Performs recommended audits and evaluates services being provided to ensure established standards of quantity and quality assurance expectations are met and maintained.

  • Performs and/or directs a variety of cleaning and laundry/linen duties.

  • Ensures safety and sanitation practices and procedures are adhered to by utilizing checklists and other audit tools. Reports any problems in accordance with established procedures.

  • Provides input into the development of standards and procedures for assigned areas; reviews and recommends revisions to existing standards to ensure that industry standards are met and communicates changes to staff.

  • Ensures communication between employees, other staff, committees, and administration is effective by utilizing memos, staff meetings, education, intranet and other methods of communication as required. Meets with peers to resolve problems and co-ordinates implementation of solutions identified. Participates in recommended departmental and interdepartmental meetings as required.

  • Makes budget recommendations to the Manager or designate.

  • Reports inoperable equipment or damaged, unsafe equipment.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

This is a Casual opportunity. Casual Employees are not guaranteed hours of work and can range from 0-37.5 hours per week on an as-needed basis.

Shifts of work will be rotating evenings, 11:26 to 20:52.

  • Grade 12 plus three years' recent, related experience in a commercial or industrial laundry or environmental services role including one year in a supervisory capacity or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
