Research Program Manager
About the role
The Department of Radiology, Radiation Oncology, and Medical Physics at the University of Ottawa is a hub of cutting-edge research, with expertise spanning clinical trials, medical imaging innovation, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality. We are seeking a dynamic, experienced Clinical Research Program Manager to provide strategic leadership and oversee the daily operations of its radiology research program. Reporting to the Chair of Radiology, Radiation Oncology and Medical Physics, the successful candidate will manage a high-performing team of six clinical research professionals and coordinate regulatory activities across more than 120 active studies.
This role encompasses a broad range of responsibilities, including:
- Oversight of program operations and regulatory compliance
- Human resources management and staff engagement
- Coordination of complex, multi-center, multi-year clinical studies. In addition to leading radiology research initiatives, the Program Manager may also support other departmental research efforts, research groups (e.g., patient recruitment for additional studies).
- Plan, coordinate, and effectively manage resources and operations of the radiology research program (e.g., financial, human, physical space, equipment, and materials, day-to-day operations) in alignment with Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and The Ottawa Hospital policies, with the maintenance of good Standard Operating Procedures.
- Lead and coordinate overall management of investigator-led and industry-led national, multi-center, multi-year clinical trials
- Oversee the quality of research delivered by the radiologists and research team in collaboration with the Chair of Radiology, Radiation Oncology and Medical Physics.
- Review study protocols and assess the feasibility of conducting new studies within the department in consultation with the Principal Investigator.
- Assist with investigator-led grant development, working with PI’s and the radiology Clinical Research Coordinators.
- Accountable for ensuring effective daily coordination for all research studies conducted within the department of radiology, maintaining ongoing communication with Principal Investigator and the research staff and medical imaging staff.
- Meet regularly with the Chair of the Department to review the research program to drive decision-making and improvement strategies to leading teams to improve research and patient outcomes.
- Review all research medical imaging requests to provide costing to all clinical research groups corporate wide.
- Collaborate with the finance team and the Chair of the Department to provide annual reports for TOHAMO, the University of Ottawa and TOH Clinical Research Program.
- Collaborate closely with the Continuing Medical Education team to plan, coordinate and execute annual radiology research day.
- Onboard summer medical students, and students employed by the Ottawa Hospital and Region Imaging Associates ensuring they are matched with an investigator to work on their research.
- Oversee all research initiatives for the radiology Fellows and residents.
- Moderate Annual Rapid Research Rounds for the Radiology Fellows.
- Provide power point presentations throughout the academic year highlighting the various innovative research opportunities available to the radiology trainees and radiologists.
- Provide research lectures on how to conduct research to incoming radiology trainees at the start of each academic year.
- Oversee and mentor any staff or trainee who require help with research processes and methodologies.
- Provide financial reports to the Chair of Radiology, Radiation Oncology and Medical Physics.
- Manage all financial aspects of research related Cost Centers.
- Collaborate with other members of the radiology administration team including the Department of Medical Imaging Director and modality managers as required.
- Complete other administrative tasks as required.
Basic Requirements (Education/Experience):
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant health discipline or science-related field.
- Five years clinical research experience
- Previous experience in managing multi-center clinical research trial(s)
- TCPS/GCP/DIV 5 certification, N2SOPs
- Strong financial and budgeting skills
- Superior organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, people skills, and high professionalism.
- Ability to deal with deadlines, work independently, and set priorities
- Strong computer skills required; familiarity with electronic databases, spreadsheets, PowerPoint documents such as in Microsoft Office, plus EPIC.
Preferred Qualifications:
- RN Certification or other Allied Health Degree
- SOCRA/ARCP Certification
- CCRP (Certified Clinical Research Professional) Certification
- Bilingual (English/French)
Contract Details:
This is a full-time contract.
Salary: Min: $51.977/hr - Max: $69.302/hr
