Job Description Contract/Temp Assignment upto 18 months Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Operations GO&UP Finance is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst for a contract role upto 18 months to provide financially informed analytical support to assigned divisions; to understand the financial and accounting impact of business processes (e.g. audit, legal, and reporting requirements) to evaluate current and future business activities, and deliver timely and accurate financial information and operational excellence.
What will I be doing?
- Provides finance forecasting and reports (e.g., variance and cost-recovery analysis, reconciliation of accounts), prepares entries, and takes corrective action.
- Conducts financial analyses in support of the business operations in the assigned division, using proper accounting treatment; provides subject matter expertise in analyzing and responding to inquiries and solving complex problems.
- Creates and applies reporting templates, financial models and automated processes to meet legal and corporate standards, including meeting deadlines.
- Provides internal customers, leaders and team members, with agreed upon reports and recommendations with accuracy and on deadline.
- Provides subject matter expertise to support other financial professionals and activities (i.e., accountants, auditors, budget managers).
- Provides subject matter expertise to non-finance business leaders, partners and committee members, assists in interpretation of financial data for decision-making and provides commentary.
- Develops commentary and presentations on financial analysis and reports for senior management and presents them to aid decision-making.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Completion of a degree in Accounting, Finance, Math, Commerce, or related field, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
- Demonstrated years’ progressive experience as a financial analyst.
- CPA/CA designation is an asset.
- Knowledge of business practices, financial analysis and reporting; understands the financial and accounting impact of business processes to evaluate current and future business activities (e.g., audit, legal, and reporting requirements).
- MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is required and Oracle would be considered an asset.
- Experience with Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) principles would be considered an asset.
- Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation communication skills to develop and present commentary, reports, and presentations on financial analysis to senior management to aid decision-making.
