Employment Status Part Time Employment Type Casual Job Summary
As a part of the larger custodial team reporting to the Manager, Environmental Services the Custodial Caretaker will primarily perform custodial duties. Additionally, they will be integral in providing event setup, event takedown, office relocations, and furniture moves during unoccupied hours of operation.
Specific Duties
- Cleaning floors, stairwells, washrooms, walls, ceilings, windows (inside & outside), furniture, carpets, window and door frames, appliances, pick up and empty interior garbage cans, etc.
- Floor maintenance such as: sweeping, dust mopping, scrubbing, buffing, spray buffing, floor finishing, stripping, ride on floor machine, etc.
- Disinfection of washrooms, shower rooms, food service areas, first aid rooms, etc.
- Restock from inventory paper supplies as required.
- Clean and perform minor & scheduled maintenance on custodial equipment.
- Use automatic chemical dispensing systems.
- Operation of commercial cleaning equipment.
- Assist with emergency procedures, not limited to, fire alarms and emergency evacuation.
- Working on ladders occasionally.
- Lock doors and windows.
- Assist the public and students with directions.
- Be attentive to prevent loss.
- Monitor building with particular attention to things such as water leaks, heat loss, lights, etc. and report malfunctions and required repairs.
- Ensure all work orders are carried out according to priority and predetermined procedures as scheduled and approved by Facilities Management.
- Set-up and tear down of event requirements such as but not limited to seating, tables, and equipment.
- Perform office relocations, delivery of furniture, removal of furniture, etc.
- Assist Facilities personnel as directed.
- You will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College and in supporting the aspirations and needs of our learners.
- You will promote a positive work atmosphere by interacting and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues.
- Other related duties as assigned by Manager Facilities Services, or Designate.
Skills & Qualifications

High School completion or equivalent

Building Service Worker 1 certificate
-
1 year or more Previous experience required in institutional setting in a role such as custodian or maintenance worker.

Knowledge of custodial equipment and chemicals used.

Basic maintenance skills and able to work with small hand tools.

Ability to assemble furniture.

Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Ability to organize workload in an efficient manner.
-
Bonding and a criminal records check may be required.

Training as required by WorkSafeBC.

Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Physical ability to complete job demands.
