Freshwater Aquaculture Technician (Gold River, BC)

Cermaq Seafood BC is looking for a dedicated Freshwater Aquaculture Technician to join our Freshwater Production Team on a permanent, full-time basis, based out of our Hatchery in Gold River, BC. This role reports directly to the Assistant Hatchery Managers and Brood & Egg Manager. This role is responsible for the day-to-day tasks of aquaculture production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carrying out daily production tasks, including monitoring, feeding, and caring for eggs, fish, and equipment.
  • Conducting water chemistry tests and habitat assessments, and sampling fish health.
  • Managing site inventory and performing general errands.
  • Basic equipment maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting.
  • Yard maintenance and general site upkeep.
  • Assisting with egg takes, fish vaccinations, treatments, and transport.
  • Collecting and entering production data.
  • Participating in on-call duties and/or night shifts as required.
  • Supporting the training and development of new technicians.

Qualifications:

  • Aquaculture Certificate or Diploma, or a science-based degree in Aquaculture, Biology, Marine Biology, Fisheries Resource Management, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, preferably in freshwater aquaculture or broodstock.
  • Physically fit with the ability to lift up to 40 lbs (20 kg) and handle full-grown salmon.
  • Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing with reliable transportation to and from the site.
  • Enthusiastic mindset with a strong desire to grow and develop new skills.
  • Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Schedule:

  • Shift schedule of 8-days-on, 6-days-off.
  • Required to be a camp-based position if residing outside of the Gold River area – with accommodations, food allowance and travel allowance provided for those in camp.
  • On-Call Requirement: Must be available for emergency situations and night routines.
