BUSINESS CENTER PRACTICE LEADER – Energy & Resources

The Business Center Practice Leader (BCPL) is the “seller/doer” who is an integral part of winning work and then leading the delivery of excellent work to our clients. Working closely with the Regional Sector Leader(s) and key Account Managers, the BCPL is responsible for the business center’s (BC) top line. The BCPL supports the growth of the BC, and Stantec’s market position while providing innovative design solutions with exceptional quality and execution that exceed client expectations.

As a leader, the BCPL inspires teams, drives practice excellence with support from our Technical Practice Leaders (TPLs), Project Managers (PMs) and Project Technical Leads (PTLs), and holds teams accountable in support of bottom-line business performance. The BCPL reports to the Regional Business Leader and is a partner to the BC Operations Leader to reinforce the brand of Stantec while helping our clients, colleagues and communities thrive.

Depending on business needs, a BCPLs primary focus may shift from either serving as a seller/doer with responsibility for winning the work with the BC or focus on leading the development and deployment of our teams that deliver design and project delivery excellence.

This position will ideally be located in British Columbia.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with the WIN team to drive growth of Energy & Resources and the BC by supporting business development activities, key pursuits, and MB&D strategy.
  • Engage with our Sector Leaders and Account Managers to expand the BC’s reach and client base using strong marketing, business development, and account management plans.
  • Increase the visibility of Stantec, to enhance our reputation and drive revenue, by sharing our knowledge and innovation story at key client engagements.
  • Actively participate in the Go/No Go review process, contribute to win strategies and successful project execution through hands-on involvement in key pursuits, client management and project management.
  • Lead the annual marketing and business development (M&BD) plan for the BC and help manage the marketing spend.
  • Represents the BC through public speaking engagements and attendance at industry and community events, meetings, and conferences.
  • Build strong partnerships with business leaders in other BCs and BOUs to foster collaboration, grow new expertise, increase work share opportunities, and drive growth.
  • Collaborate with the BCOL in developing, attracting, engaging, and retaining top talent while supporting the overall talent management lifecycle including career development, employee engagement, succession planning, coaching and mentoring, diversity and inclusion, and leadership development for the BC.
  • Establish employee connectedness to leadership by interfacing frequently with employees and by conducting BC-wide meetings to communicate the vision, business strategy and progress against applicable action plans with the BCOL.
  • Support the BCOL in meeting established targets net revenue, gross margin, overhead, and operating income in the BC.
  • Help meet regional business plan MBD, sales, and revenue targets within budget. Contribute to: - Net sales revenue

  • MBD spend against budget
  • The BCPL reports to the Regional Business Leader. Utilization target ranges from 40% to 50%.

Capabilities and Credentials:

  • Professional Degree and registration preferred in your field of practice, as applicable. Minimum of 10+ years of experience in business development, account management, and project management in a multi-disciplinary practice.
  • Demonstrated leadership on key projects and experience with delivering project excellence.
  • Strong seller-doer capable of generating work and creating long-term relationships and delivering long-term value to clients for Stantec.
  • Highly collaborative and driven to form partnerships with Integrated Design, Global Delivery Centers, and across the Energy & Resources business line.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, organization, coordination, leadership, team-building and managerial skills.
  • Knowledge of market assessment techniques, insights, and contacts.
  • An entrepreneurial orientation with strong understanding of the business development challenges of a consulting-services provider.
  • Experience with responding to Requests for Proposals, Expression of Interests, Statement of Qualifications.
  • Experience across multiple service offerings and sectors a plus.

Position will primarily work in an office setting; however, some field work as well as travel between offices may be required.

Pay Range:

  • Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC - Min Salary $ 152,000.00 - Max Salary $ 235,600.00

  • Locations in Lower Mainland - BC - Min Salary $ 161,100.00 - Max Salary $ 249,700.00

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
