Job Overview
The Director, Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is responsible for designing, managing, and enhancing the ERM framework to ensure enterprise-wide risks are effectively identified, assessed, monitored, and reported.
Role
In the role, you will...
- Provide ERM Framework leadership. Maintain and enhance the ERM Framework including development of risk appetite and tolerance.
- Analyze current risks and identify emerging risks that can or are affecting the company and provide strategic and creative solutions to mitigate current and emerging risks
- Integrate ERM with strategic and business planning activities and commit to industry best practices, continuous improvement and benchmarking with peers.
- Through scenario analysis and stress testing establish and provide details regarding the level of risk the company is willing to take
- Utilize strategic insight to encourage optimization of risks in the organization and use as a competitive business advantage
- Participate on project teams providing discipline around risk assessment throughout the project lifecycle as well as effective challenge and escalation where required
- Provide independent challenge and oversight to business leaders
- Prepare risk reporting tailored to the relevant audience.
- Oversee enterprise recovery and resolution plans ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements
- Liaise with internal and external auditors to ensure compliance to policy and regulations and follow on action plans
- Interact with corporate insurers and maintain records of insurance policies and claims
- Advocate for risk awareness amongst staff by providing support and training within the company
- Being a change leader as FirstOntario continues to adapt to new and exciting ways of delivering business services while mitigating current and potential risk or exposure
- Celebrate the success of others by recognizing the contributions of team members and their achievements
- Consider healthsafety as a primary concern to ensure the overall well-being of your team and members
- Perform other duties as required
Required Skills
Within your skills and qualifications, you will...
- Have a strong business acumen that you have built from the ground up with a post-secondary diploma or degree in Business, Accounting or Finance
- Minimum ten (10) years' experience in a position within a financial institution in risk management, including management level responsibility in Risk and/or Compliance
- Possess a CRM designation or equivalent work experience
- Demonstrate expertise in policy and procedure development as well as identification and implementation of internal controls
- Able to deal with complex and confidential issues efficiently
- Utilize data analytics to write meaningful reports and confidently present findings to business partners that will enable them to make informed decisions
- Use of and familiarity with models combined with strong excel skills
- Enjoy managing multiple priorities with strict deadlines
- Possess an innate ability to be detail-oriented and organized
- Have strong leadership skills, technical skills (including Information Technology), analytical and critical thinking skills, project management and organizational skills, and an ability to review and work with models
- Have an incredible passion for ensuring the accuracy of record keeping and reporting to mitigate risk
- Comprehensive and current knowledge of legislation applicable to Credit Unions i.e. Credit Union Act, FSRA Guidance and Bylaws
- Comprehensive understanding of risk and control concepts and can apply these concepts to evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of business processes and controls to mitigate risk to tolerance levels defined by management
- Clear and effective listening and communication (verbal, written, presentation) skills that you adapt to your audience
- Possess a collaborative spirit and be committed to corporate values by demonstrating respect and integrity with all coworkers
- Be extremely comfortable using a computer, particularly MS Office products
- Be quick to respond to requests for service from all your clients
- Work smart by managing multiple priorities with strict deadlines while also possessing an innate ability to be detail-oriented and organized
- Inherently demonstrate a high level of integrity and be trustworthy
This position is primarily remote, with occasional visits in person in Stoney Creek, ON.

Salary Range: $125,509 to $173,125.
Compensation for this role reflects a combination of skills, experience, and internal equity. Those whose experience more closely aligns the role's requirements may be placed higher within the salary range.
