AWC Operations Canada, ULC (AWCC) performs many logistics functions. Some of these are real time yard management, real time data transfers, real time vehicle direct locating, dealer delivery, import / export preparations, rail car preparation and switching, rail car loading and unloading, and extensive assembly plant operations. Summary of Position: The HOP Inspector inspects vehicles at the plant for damage. This document is designed to provide a general overview of the requirements of the position and does not entail a comprehensive list of all activities, duties, or responsibilities that will be required for this position. In addition, these activities, duties, or responsibilities may change and will be periodically updated. Essential Functions, Duties and Tasks: Inspect vehicles received at the plant for damage(s) Photograph and report any damage(s) Ensure vehicles have correct paperwork Scan vehicle in VIPS, and give bay location Record all vehicles that are returned to the plant Rail inspection duties such as: Count blocks and report number of vehicles with double chocks Audit offloaded vehicles for Association of American Railroad (AAR) standards Scan vehicles with the mobile device for yard inventory (e.g., complete yard inventory, lost or mis-zoned vehicles), and during hold campaigns Collapse and hang chock blocks Open and close railcar doors Clean van interiors Fuel vans – record and report date, van number and liters of fuel Assist yard supervisors (e.g., offsite locations, start vehicles, clear windshields, tire changes, vehicle batteries, yard cleanup, rail seals, prep travelers) Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work environment, including scanners, tools, work vans, rail yard etc. Notify management of any workplace hazards, or unsafe conditions Other tasks as assigned Knowledge, Skill and Abilities Required: Exhibit behaviour and conduct that fosters a positive work atmosphere Ability to interact with others effectively and communicate diplomatically Ability to read, write and interpret documents (e.g., Safety Data Sheets, locations cards, work orders, vehicle identification numbers, etc.) Ability to effectively react to change and work in a variety of situations Ability to adhere to quality standards and safe work practices Ability to work with limited supervision Education, Experience, and Minimum Requirements: High school diploma, or equivalent Minimum 1-year heavy labour experience Ability to drive both automatic and manual transmission vehicles Valid full G driver's license Communicate in English; Ability to read, write and interpret documents Subject to third party Pre-employment Medical Assessment Subject to Background check including Driver's Abstract and Criminal Record Check Minimum Tools Used: Keys Vehicles Pens, Pencils Barcode Scanner Chemicals involved with: Brake Fluid Gasoline Isopropyl Alcohol Anti-freeze Motor Oil Refrigerant Transmission Fluids Cleaning Supplies Hydraulic Fluid Coolant Alkaline Batteries Working Conditions: Work primarily conducted outside – must work, walk and drive in all types of weather, including extreme weather conditions Work at a fast pace Working in tight spaces Lifting and carrying up to 50lbs Handling of railcar doors Working at a height of 15ft Climbing and descending of rail car ladders Stooping, kneeling, crouching while on the trains Working at a height of approximately 15 ft. above ground Personal Protective Equipment provided Accommodations will be provided throughout the recruitment, hiring and employment process in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Ontario Human Rights Code.
