The Organization:
The Investigative Journalism Bureau (IJB) at the University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health is an investigative newsroom that publishes award-winning public interest journalism through a unique model bringing together senior journalists, academics, researchers and media organizations while training the next generation of investigative reporters. The IJB's work spans print, podcast and documentary work which has impacted public policy and been cited by journalism award judges across Canada and the U.S. Through a publishing partnership with Postmedia, the IJB's journalism is published across Canada.
Call for Applications: Investigative Reporter
You will work with a driven team of journalists and researchers on large-scale projects of public interest. You will be engaged in story planning, strategizing public records harvesting, backgrounding companies and individuals, filing and appealing freedom of information requests, data analysis and in-depth interviewing. Candidates with strong multi-media skills — including visual storytelling and video/audio production — are especially encouraged to apply. Interested candidates are asked to submit the following:
- Resume
- Three clips showing your most ambitious work
- A letter explaining your interest in investigative work and the kinds of subject matter that interests you
Ideal candidates should be:
- Driven to find information that sheds new light on unanswered questions
- Collaborative teammates who are not afraid of trying new things or having difficult conversations
- Curious and exacting in their research methods with strong analytical and verification skills
- Clear writers and thinkers
The IJB team meets in person in its newsroom inside the Postmedia building in downtown Toronto at least three days a week, typically Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The successful candidate will need to be in Toronto.
