Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The role will be responsible for managing inventory using a computerized system, as well as moving inventory physically within the facility. The primary objective will be to maintain accurate and adequate levels of stock in the correct locations to meet daily distribution demands while minimizing excess supply. At times the Warehouse Support Worker III will also be called upon to perform standard warehouse duties like receiving, sorting, put-away, picking and shipping of primarily food products. The position requires regular use of power equipment (forklift, power cart) along with some manual work, and the use of computer systems to help supply donated goods to member agencies who help the needy in our communities.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.
Warehouse:
- Oversee Inventory Reconciliation by ensuring accuracy of system data when compared with physical inventory in locations and zones.
- Ensure proper stock levels of warehouse inventory and MRO goods are maintained; identify shortages of both available space and product through audits.
- Use Warehouse Management System/Inventory Management System to record and facilitate warehouse operations.
- Maintain updated and accurate records of inventory, including transfers and cycle counts.
- Track rates of accuracy including returns of defective items to inform quality control decisions.
- Responsible for put-away from receiving, replenishment, and all other movement of inventory both physically and systemically.
- Ensure accurate movement of Raw Materials into Production and verify counts of final Finished Goods produced daily coming out of Production. Move inventory from production into reserve storage.
- Record and report all wastage from receiving, warehouse and production, while reporting to management for write off auditing.
- Prepare, complete, and submit documentation in a timely manner as required.
- Ensure that Best Before and Expiry dates are adhered to and maintain FEFO/FIFO principles in inventory handling.
- Ensure that daily order instructions from Management are performed to enable picking.
- Perform other warehouse tasks operating power equipment as required.
General:
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Adhere to the Salvation Army Policy & Procedure Manual, ODC Policy & Procedure Manual and ODC Health & Safety Guidelines
- Ensure all comments regarding goods and / or services from Ministry Units, suppliers or other contacts are communicated to Management in a timely manner.
- Wear the appropriate safety / Personal Protective Equipment and maintain a clean uniform.
- Ensure all work is completed in a safe manner, in accordance with TSA policy, WSIB, CVOR, WHMIS and all other regulatory requirements.
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
Specialized Communication. Conducts Involved Interactions.
Internal: Work cooperatively with Supply Chain Warehouse Manager, Workers, Drivers and volunteers. Interact courteously and professionally with staff from various Ministry Units while completing delivery tasks.
External: Interact courteously and professionally with suppliers and donors.
MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports directly to the DRC Manager.
Direct reports: None.
May act as a Technical Leader. May provide guidance and supervision to new employees and volunteers during onboarding and orientation.
Provide training on WMS (Fishbowl) as required.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:
- Moderate material responsibility (inventory check, count, and replenishment).
- Accountable for operating and inspecting specialized equipment to sort, transport, store, and build skids.
- Minor financial responsibility (inventory).

WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is a permanent full time position.
- Work is typically performed in a warehouse environment with exposure to handling garbage, monotony of work (repetitive tasks), various odours.
- Duties involve some work in freezers and refrigerators.
- May on occasion be required to lift/move/transport weights of more than 39 lbs but regular weights would normally fall under 39lbs.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completion of a formal post-secondary program of one academic year in a related field.
- Current Forklift Operators Certificate.
Experience and Knowledge:
- At least 2 years of related experience in warehouse and inventory.
- Proficient with computers and other standard office technology.
- Familiarity with WMS and Inventory Management software.
Skills and Capabilities:
- Proven attention to detail and the ability to follow legislation, directions, policies, procedures and well-defined steps.
- Ability to safely lift up to 39 pounds.
- Reliable, self-motivated and confident.
- Ability to work in a team setting as well as independently.
- Acceptable criminal record check.
- Valid drivers’ license and an acceptable drivers’ abstract.
- Proven organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Able to adopt a flexible work schedule during peak and / or seasonal times.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism.
- Ability to understand and adhere to the Code of Ethics.
- Able to work in a consultative, diplomatic and tactful manner.
- Organizational and time-management skills to plan and manage the workload.
Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $21.04 to $26.30 with a maximum of $31.57.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
