We are seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join Photonic’s legal team and play a key role in shaping the commercialization of our world-leading quantum technology. This position offers the opportunity to provide strategic legal guidance across product development, go-to-market initiatives, and regulatory compliance.
The ideal candidate is motivated, organized, and curious, with the ability to quickly master complex legal issues and translate them into clear, practical advice for non-legal stakeholders. You combine strong academic foundations with practical advice, sound business judgment while delivering actionable guidance that enables teams to move forward with confidence.
WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO
- Advise product, design, and engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle
- Ensure compliance with Canadian and international laws, including technology, licensing, export, and IP regulations
- Identify and mitigate legal risks proactively
- Draft and negotiate commercial agreements related to product development, manufacturing, and distribution
- Collaborate on intellectual property strategy and enforcement
- Develop scalable processes, policies, and templates to streamline legal support
- Partner cross-functionally on privacy, security, compliance, and IP matters
- Provide practical, risk-balanced legal guidance to senior leaders
- Stay informed on product developments and cultivate creative legal solutions
WHAT YOU BRING TO OUR TEAM
- JD or LLB, and membership in a Canadian provincial bar, with eligibility to practice in British Columbia.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal role
- Expertise in technology product development and regulatory compliance
- Strong contract negotiation and drafting skills
- Ability to simplify complex concepts and deliver actionable advice
- Strategic thinker with sound judgment and adaptability in fast-paced environments
- Technically savvy and enthusiastic about innovation
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills
- A collaborative mindset and a positive sense of humor

The base annual salary range for this full-time role is $161,900 to $222,600 CAD. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target range for new hire base salary across all Canadian locations. Actual compensation may vary outside of this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to a candidate's qualifications including relevant education and training, competencies, experience, geographic location, and business needs. Base pay is only one part of the total compensation package. Full time roles are eligible for equity and benefits. Base pay is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
