Position Summary
The Credit Specialist position is responsible for the collection of outstanding accounts and the resolution of issues relating to pricing, taxes and discounts that may occur from time to time.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs credit risk assessments; research and obtain appropriate credit information to rate credit worthiness of new and existing accounts and makes recommendations of credit limit for approval.
- Perform credit reviews annually, or as required / make recommendations on revisions
- Monitoring customer accounts and facilitating collection of invoices within the terms established by McAsphalt.
- You will be performing account reconciliations.
- monitor customer accounts for situations where terms are not being adhered to.
- Aid customers relating to account enquiries.
- Communicate directly with customers, as required, to request payments as per terms of payment.
- Communicate with Billing/Sales departments concerning resolution of past due accounts outstanding.
Required Qualifications
- Successful candidates will have a college/university degree in Business, Finance or Accounting.
- A CCP designation, or working towards, from the Credit Institute of Canada.
- 3 - 5 Years of experience in a trade credit-related position.
- Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting receivable principles.
- Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records.
- Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and proprietary software. High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of federal and provincial taxes.
- General Accounting Practices.
- Good understanding of Microsoft products specifically Excel, and Word.
- Knowledge of JD Edwards would be an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A cooperative attitude and sense of humor will assist with supporting other corporate departments, suppliers and customers.
