Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority – Yellowknife Region (NTHSSA) is one of eight health and social services authorities established by the Department of Health and Social Services in the Government of the Northwest Territories.
NTHSSA – Yellowknife Region delivers and administers Population Health, Primary Health Care and Social Services programs in the communities of Dettah, Fort Resolution, Lutselk’e, Ndilo and Yellowknife.

Job Information
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA), the Director plays a critical leadership role in shaping and guiding the financial strategy of the organization. This position oversees all aspects of financial planning and operations, including budgeting, variance analysis, payroll, and security access across the entire NTHSSA.
The Director works collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure the timely and accurate completion of the NTHSSA's annual financial statement audit, as well as the submission of funding requests to the Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS). The Director also ensures that all financial matters brought before the Financial Management Board are presented with clarity, accuracy, and strategic insight.
In addition, the Director leads all comptrollership activities for both Stanton Territorial Hospital (STH) and Inuvik Regional Hospital, playing a vital role in supporting hospital operations and accountability.
As the head of the Financial Planning, Operations, and Hospitals Comptrollership Division, the Director is responsible for providing senior leadership with strategic financial advice, supporting effective decision-making, and recommending fiscally responsible options to the Chief Financial Officer and the Chief Executive Officer.
The Director manages a team of 12 staff, including four managers, and oversees a significant departmental budget of approximately $479 million in revenue and $524 million in expenses, which includes the Division's own operating budget of $1.8 million.
This role requires strong collaboration with a range of partners, including DHSS, the Department of Finance, Hay River and Tlicho Health and Social Services Authorities, professional associations, and various federal, provincial, territorial, and Indigenous governments, as well as non-governmental and community organizations.
Typically the above qualifications would be attained by a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a concentration in Accounting and Finance along with a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant designation in good standing, combined with a minimum of 8 years of related financial experience, preferably government, which includes 3 years of management experience.
An equivalency would be a Masters of Accounting/Business Administration, Finance/Economics and Finance along with a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant designation in good standing, combined with a minimum of 6 years of related financial experience, preferably government, which includes 3 years of management experience.
