Architectural Job Captain (Commercial, Institutional & Light Industrial)
Work Arrangement: Hybrid Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent Compensation: Salary based on experience
Position Summary
We have an immediate opening for a Job Captain to join our leading architectural firm. In this hybrid role, you will lead a dedicated production team to generate high-quality contract documents for commercial, institutional, and light industrial projects. You will act as a pivotal link between design and execution, managing drawing production, directing team workflows, and mentoring junior to intermediate staff.
Key Responsibilities
Drawing Production: Prepare, coordinate, and oversee comprehensive working drawings for all assigned projects. Technical Quality Control: Create and review technical content to the highest standards of excellence, ensuring design intent is consistently maintained throughout the project. Consultant Coordination: Work closely with the Project Manager to coordinate with internal staff and manage all project aspects with Mechanical, Electrical, and Structural consultants. Team Leadership: Responsible for daily coordination, workload monitoring, and communication with the production team. Staff Mentorship: Mentor technicians and intermediate team members, helping them resolve difficult operating tasks or complex drawing production problems. Industry Compliance: Stay continually up to date on construction practices, building materials, codes, and evolving technologies. Construction Administration: Collaborate with the Contract Administration Department to process project shop drawings and manage administrative paperwork.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Graduate from an accredited Architectural Technology Diploma program. Experience: Minimum of 8 years of related experience, with a proven track record in commercial, institutional, or light industrial sectors. Software Mastery: Advanced, professional-level proficiency with Revit is mandatory. Code Knowledge: Deep proficiency with Ontario Building Systems and the Ontario Building Code (OBC). Leadership Skills: Strong leadership capabilities with a demonstrated ability to guide, support, and mentor junior and intermediate team members. Soft Skills: Exceptional communication, time management, and relationship-building skills to collaborate effectively with clients, consultants, and internal departments.
