About the role
Engineering Intern
TÜV SÜD, a global leader in electrical product safety certification, transportation products testing, environmental testing, energy efficiency, EMC testing, regulatory affairs and international compliance and has an immediate opening at our facility in Newmarket, ON.
This is 4 to 8 month Engineering Intern position in a laboratory environment, reporting to the local Site Operations Manager. The Engineering Intern will be provided ongoing training and support to conduct various degrees of test disciplines and data acquisition/control system wiring, which will include Environmental Testing, Abuse & Performance testing on Lithium Ion batteries. The Engineering Intern will learn how to report findings with a high degree of accuracy, wire, configure and troubleshoot various pieces of equipment. This position will maintain confidentiality of customers, products tested and internal proprietary information.
Primary Responsibilities (Supervised):
- Inspect, photograph, and document products for testing
- Perform, shadow and monitor product testing/assessments to applicable requirements using given instrumentation and gauges
- Wire, build, and modify various data acquisition control systems & test equipment
- Operate and troubleshoot test equipment and test bench systems
- Collect and document test data in accordance with applicable test procedures and requirements. (In the form of a Test Data Sheet, graphical information, or others as defined by applicable project scope)
- Prepare accurate Test Reports, Test Incident Reports and/or Technical Reports, to the appropriate standards and/or procedures
- Complete timesheets, daily
- Written and oral communication must be delivered prompt and effectively Adhere to all TÜV SÜD policies and procedures
Other Responsibilities
- Perform equipment calibrations as assigned (Equipment will include, but not limited to; data acquisition systems, environmental chambers, handheld electrical and mechanical gauges, load cells)
- Prepare and coordinate shipping and receiving of test samples, inclusive of all necessary documentation and internal logging and tagging procedures All employees are expected to work in a manner that supports a safe and healthy work environment for themselves and others. This includes following established rules, policies and practices of environmental, health and safety in the workplace.
During your position as an Engineering Intern, you will touch upon skills you have acquired from your studies, such as Control Wiring, Electrical Systems and Control, Gauge Instrumentation Setup, Documentation, Data Processing and Generation, Electrical Schematic Reading, DC & AC Fundamentals and more.
Service Areas:
We test to a variety of products to specifications written by ISTA, ASTM, ISO, SAE, IEC, CSA, UL, UN, EN, Toyota, General Motors, Ford, Stellantis, Nissan, Honda, VW, BMW, Mercedes, MIL-STD, RTCA, Aerospace, Military, and Medical Health OEM's.

Position Requirements:
- Ability to apply and understand basic electrical and/or mechanical concepts
- Must be observant and have attention to detail

- Proficient with MS Office 365
- Able to stay focused and professional in a fast-paced environment
- Currently enrolled in an Engineering-type program Having a means of transportation to TÜV SÜD Newmarket (GO Transit, Personal Vehicle, etc.)
