ROLE
The Manager, Laboratory (HPHA) provides leadership and operational oversight for the HPHA Laboratory program, including the Core Lab (SGH), Microbiology and Anatomical Pathology, which collectively perform testing for the InterHospital Laboratory Partnership (IHLP). The Manager has program accountability across HPHA and serves as the site operational lead for Stratford General Hospital (SGH). Responsibilities include quality, safety, regulatory compliance, fiscal management, workforce planning, and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) oversight, in collaboration with the Medical Program Director, Laboratories, the Director, Diagnostics, Regional Pharmacy and Chemotherapy, and IHLP leadership.
HPHA is currently piloting an internal leadership adjustment that includes a Laboratory Supervisor role. While the Manager retains ultimate accountability for program outcomes, certain day‑to‑day functions may be delegated to designated leaders. If the pilot is approved, the position description may be updated to reflect finalized accountabilities without altering the core scope, level, or compensation of this role.
-**Reports to:**Director, Diagnostics, Regional Pharmacy and Chemotherapy -**Collaborates with:**Medical Program Director, Laboratories; IHLP Regional Coordinator, Laboratories; internal operational leaders
REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)

Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) required
-
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technologist/Science program required
-
Valid driver’s licence and/or access to a personal motor vehicle for travel within the HPHA and IHLP
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)
-
Minimum of 7 to 10 years of current progressive professional experience
-
Minimum of 5 years of current progressive management experience
-
Minimum of 3 years of experience with recognized LIS/HIS’s
-
Mature, flexible, organized and self-directed
-
Ability to utilize available resources to achieve a goal
-
Ability to adapt to change and follow the tenets of Process Optimization
-
Ability to interpret and apply policies, collective agreements, regulations and directives pertaining to the personnel function including scheduling a 24/7 operation
-
Demonstrated exceptional leadership and team building skills
-
Proven management skills including financial, human resources, quality improvement, change management, evaluation, planning, organizational, utilization and time management skills

Well-developed mutual gain negotiation and conflict management resolution skills

Demonstrated analytical skills necessary to gather and interpret qualitative and quantitative data

Effective verbal and written communication skills

Demonstrates a high level of integrity and ethical decision making

Organized and self-directed

Computer-literate in Meditech and Microsoft Office applications as a minimum software usage
DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATION

Advanced certification in General Laboratory with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Sciences (CSMLS) preferred

Health Management diploma and/or degree preferred

Diploma/certificate in Clinical Quality Manager Program is an asset
