The opportunity:
The Price Faculty of Engineering has a unique opportunity available for a Nanosystems Fabrication Laboratory Technologist. The NSFL is an open-access cleanroom nanofabrication facility that is used by students (undergraduate and graduate), professors, post-doctoral fellows, research associates, visiting researchers and external (non-academic) users. The facility can be thought of as a “machine shop” that is used to fabricate specialized research devices/apparatus, where all the dimensions are at the micrometer/nanometer scale.
The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:
- Engineering Technology Diploma from a recognized Community College or equivalent and eligibility for CTTAM certification is required.
- Completed B.Sc. Science degree in a related area of study preferred.
- 7 years of hands-on experience with silicon and/or glass micro-fabrication technology required.
- Experience with semiconductor process chemistry and the operation of semiconductor manufacturing and inspection equipment required.
- Experience developing and calibrating wet chemical process chemistry, lithography processes and thin film deposition processes are required.
- Experience training others in the use of equipment required.
- Experience with thin film deposition, photolithography and chemical processing preferred.
- Cleanroom experience preferred.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Must have a high degree of manual dexterity in order to work with small items under a microscope.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to work with students and staff.
- Demonstrated ability to uphold safety protocols in the use and secure storage of hazardous substances is required.
- Ability to provide training and direction to others is required.
- Ability to plan budgets and work within budget allocation are required.
- Ability to operate and perform minor routine maintenance on equipment and troubleshoot equipment is required.
- Ability to make decisions, plan and control projects are required.
- Ability to oversee inventory control and ensure accurate stock management is required.
- Ability to coordinate multiple responsibilities while effectively prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines required.
- Capable of working effectively both independently and collaboratively is required.
- Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and guide others is required.
- Proven ability to resolve issues efficiently while fulfilling the demands of the role is required.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
