As a Digital Evidence Technician, you will support all areas of the Calgary Police Service (CPS) by extracting data from various electronic devices (computers, cellular phones and other various data storage devices) for digital evidence. Specific duties include:
- Maintain the intake and extraction of electronic devices and ensuring the preservation of data is maintained by providing detailed notes and creating formal reports.
- Provide deskside support and guidance to police investigators who will be reviewing digital evidence related to the investigation to support investigated offences.
- Assist in reviewing, organizing & retention of data such as photos, videos, text messages, social media information and any data related to the offence.
- Provide technical support, troubleshoot technical issues and maintain records and historical tracking data.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of industry standard software that is used daily to ensure the integrity of the evidence for future court purposes.
- Responsible for administrative duties including restocking supplies, printing, photocopying.
Working Conditions: This position is regularly exposed to graphic, disturbing, and sensitive materials.
Qualifications
- A 1-year certificate in Criminal Justice, Video Technology, Computer Science or related discipline and a minimum of 3 years related experience.
- CompTIA A+ Certification (or equivalent) is required.
- Previous experience in a law enforcement or justice-based environment will be considered an asset.
- Success in this position requires a commitment and dedication to continuous learning and professional development. The successful applicant will be required to maintain current and ongoing job-related training and stay up to date with industry best practices.
- Required competencies include: Demonstrates Emotional Intelligence, Creates and Sustains Safe, Respectful and Inclusive Workplaces, Promotes Supportive, Balanced, and Professional Accountability, Builds and Maintains Relationships, Develops Self and Others, Strives for Results
Pre-employment Requirements
- An enhanced security clearance and pre-employment polygraph will be conducted.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Compensation: Pay Grade 7 $35.45 - 47.43 per hour
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
