We are seeking qualified individuals for the role of Inventory Controller**.** Please note that this is not a fly-in, fly-out position and will be based in Labrador West, NL, and will be on a Monday-Friday schedule.
The Inventory Controller is responsible for ensuring the accurate control, availability, and optimization of inventory required to support mining operations. This role focuses on managing critical spares, consumables, and materials to minimize equipment downtime, ensure safety and regulatory compliance, and control inventory costs in a mining environment.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory & Materials Control
- Manage inventory of critical spares, consumables, and materials for fixed plant and mobile mining equipment.
- Ensure availability of long-lead-time and critical-path items to support maintenance and production.
- Classify inventory based on criticality, usage, and risk (critical, non-critical, insurance spares).
- Maintain accurate inventory records in the Ellipse system.
Receiving, Storage & Issuing
- Verify incoming materials against purchase orders and delivery documentation.
- Ensure correct storage and handling of hazardous materials, chemicals, lubricants, and PPE in accordance with regulations.
- Issue inventory against approved work orders and maintenance plans.
- Process returns, repairs, and warranty items accurately.
Stock Accuracy & Control
- Conduct cycle counts and periodic physical stock takes.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
- Apply FIFO/FEFO principles where applicable
- Identify and manage obsolete, slow-moving, or damaged stock.
Planning & Optimization
- Establish and maintain minimum and maximum stock levels.
- Support planned maintenance shutdowns and operational campaigns.
- Analyze usage trends, lead times, and failure data to optimize inventory.
- Contribute to working capital reduction and cost control initiatives.
Safety, Compliance & Governance
- Comply with all mine site safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements for hazardous and controlled materials.
- Maintain SDS documentation and proper labeling.
- Support internal and external audits.
Reporting & Communication
- Prepare inventory reports including stock status, aging, turnover, and critical spares availability.
- Communicate effectively with maintenance, procurement, and operations teams.
- Escalate inventory risks that may impact production or safety.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Inventory accuracy
- Availability of critical spares
- Equipment downtime attributable to stockouts
- Inventory turnover
- Value of obsolete and slow-moving inventory
- Compliance with stocktake and audit requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Qualification in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3–7 years’ experience in inventory control within mining or heavy industry.
- Experience with ERP systems.
- Strong understanding of mining equipment parts and consumables.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience working on remote mine sites.
- Knowledge of asset management principles (ISO 55000).
- Exposure to shutdown and maintenance planning environments.
