About the role
Job Summary:
The Youth Initiative Liaison (YIL) supports youth-led initiatives by mentoring youth leaders, facilitating collective action, and building group capacity to design and implement meaningful community projects. Reporting to the Strategic Youth Initiative Coordinator, the YIL applies community development and youth engagement practices to guide dialogues, assessments, and action planning.
The role involves connecting youth to training, resources, and partner organizations; delivering capacity-building sessions; supporting evaluation; and coordinating logistics for smooth program delivery. The position requires frequent engagement with youth and communities, flexibility for some evenings and weekends, and strong commitment to youth empowerment, equity, and community-led development.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Planning & Outreach

Support the Strategic Youth Initiative Coordinator in developing and implementing work plans for youth-led initiatives.

Deliver presentations and information sessions to youth, families, schools, and community stakeholders.

Assist in developing program tools, forms, and communication materials to support youth activities.
Youth Engagement & Mentorship

Build trusting relationships with youth from diverse backgrounds.
-
Provide mentorship and coaching to youth leaders in leadership, organizing, and project management skills.

Facilitate community dialogues to help youth identify needs, assets, and shared priorities.
-
Connect youth groups to training, mentorship, and community resources that strengthen their initiatives.
Program Delivery & Coordination

Recruit and onboard youth participants from target communities.
-
Support youth groups throughout the design, implementation, and reflection phases of their initiatives.
-
Responsible for logistic arrangement for workshops, events, and meetings, including venues, materials, and communications.
Evaluation & Reporting

Collect and summarize data to support program evaluation and continuous improvement.

Monitor and document progress, challenges, and successes of youth-led initiatives.

Prepare timely reports and updates for the Strategic Youth Initiative Coordinator and stakeholders.

Maintain accurate and confidential records of participants, activities, and outcomes.
Qualifications:

Post-secondary education in social work, community development, sociology, anthropology, or related fields (equivalent experience will be considered).

Minimum 2 years’ experience in a non-profit environment, preferably in youth programming, community development, or leadership initiatives.

Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with experience working with diverse and underserved youth.

Experience mentoring or coaching youth leaders; ability to foster inclusive and youth-centered engagement.

Knowledge of barriers faced by underserved children and youth.
-
Self-directed, organized, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities.
-
Cross-cultural sensitivity and inclusive approach to working with diverse communities.
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and Google tools; database knowledge an asset.
Working Conditions:

Full-time (37.5 hrs/week), with evening and weekend work required.
-
Primarily in-person, with travel to various community locations in the Edmonton region.
-
Police Information Check with vulnerable sector search, and Intervention Record Check within 6 months.

Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, clean abstract, and reliable vehicle for local travel.
