Description JOB DESCRIPTION The Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences is seeking a Occupational Therapist who will report to the clinical manager of Dual Diagnosis Services. The OT will be responsible for working in our Recovery-based environment and for the ongoing development and implementation of psychosocial rehabilitation programs to meet the needs of patients.
Responsibilities include: functional and environmental assessments; individual and group programs; liaison with family and community agencies; active involvement as a member of a multidisciplinary team and treatment coordination and planning to meet the recovery needs of the discharging patient.
Requirements
- A Masters degree (or equivalent), in Occupational Therapy.
- Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists in good standing.
- Current CPR - HCP is required.
- Valid G license required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery.
- 3-5 years psychiatric experience in a mental health facility or service is desirable.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the College Standards of Practice and commitment to maintaining reflective practice standards as described by the College.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Mental Health, and relevant policies and legislation, such as the Mental Health Act and PHIPA.
- An in-depth knowledge and experience of the challenges involved in community integration of short and longer stay psychiatric inpatients with mental illness.
- Proven ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Developmental Delay.
- Thorough knowledge and ability to administer standardized tests as applied in mental health settings.
- Demonstrated competence in individual and group programming skills.
- This candidate will have demonstrated excellent interpersonal and effective oral/written communication skills.
- The ability to work with clients of diverse ethno racial and cultural backgrounds and proficiency in a second language would be considered an asset.
- Ability to perform the physical demands of the job.
- Variable hours required due to patient demand.
