The Service Advisor is the dealership's first-line customer-relations and service representative and therefore must have strong customer service skills, good technical knowledge. Overall, the tasks include diagnose, assist, cost RO`s, upsell, follow up and assist overall in the smooth daily running of the service department.

Job Duties:

  • Greet each customer in a prompt, courteous manner,
  • Communicate with service customers to determine the nature of the mechanical problems - Must be an excellent listener
  • Secure agreement from customers before repairs; cover cost estimate; and approximate time when vehicle's work will be completed.
  • Obtain customer and vehicle data
  • Maintain a dealership-prescribed standard for "hours per customer repair order written"
  • Go to the car with the customer and listen or see the problem firsthand.
  • Inspect all vehicles for bodywork, notify the customer if work is needed and provide an estimate for body shop work. Perform thorough walk around on every customer vehicle including tow-ins.
  • Schedule appointments using dealership booking system
  • Advise customers on the care of their cars and the value of maintaining their vehicles in accordance with manufacture's specifications, using maintenance menus
  • Keep a daily log of repair orders written, status as well as carryovers
  • Handle minor customer complaints and misunderstandings
  • Customers who are very upset must be introduced to Manager who will handle the problem.
  • Communicate the need for additional work when needed; explain the details to the customer, including the additional cost and time consideration and document properly on repair order
  • Follow up progress of each repair order during the day, contact customers by telephone regarding changes in the estimate or time promised
  • Handle telephone inquiries regarding work in process and appointments and return phone messages promptly
  • Ensure that KPI’s are achieved with each customer and communicated to customer upon closing
  • Deliver vehicles to customers and answer any questions, review work performed and explain charges and coverage
  • Interpret warranty information and policies to customers
  • Stay up to date on technical and performance information on all vehicles serviced by the dealership
  • Refer leads and prospects for vehicle sales to the new and pre-owned sales departments
  • Advise customers of parts ordered and make an appointment to have them installed before customer leaves
  • Assist the service manager as necessary
  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures, and safety standards

Successful Candidates Possess:

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent, Post-secondary education is preferred.
  • Previous experience as a Service Advisor or in a similar customer service role within the automotive industry is preferred.
  • Strong automotive knowledge and understanding of vehicle systems and repairs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in using automotive service software and other relevant computer applications.
  • Ability to work in a team and possesses strong interpersonal skills with an upbeat and engaging attitude.
