Position: Lifeguard
Department: Athletics
Reports to: Head of Aquatics
Starting date: ASAP
Salary: $21.20 - $25.00 per hour
St. George’s School is seeking lifeguards to work various part time shifts.
- Pool opening hours: 5:15am - 10:00pm.
- Shifts range from short 3-4hr to 8hr, mornings, daytimes, and evenings.
- Weekdays and some weekends
- Starting ASAP, either on a short-term or long-term basis.
Qualifications will include:
- Minimum two years full time lifeguard experience, with knowledge and practice of lifesaving, lifeguarding, and first aid.
- National Lifeguard Service (pool option), CPR Level C, and Standard First Aid Certification.
- WHIMS, Pool Operator, or other Aquatic operations related certification not required but considered an asset.
- WSI or other Aquatic teaching certifications are considered an asset.
- Sound knowledge of the rules and regulations governing safety in an indoor aquatic facility.
- Demonstrated ability to handle a variety of customer service situations in an aquatic facility.
- Ability to make appropriate decisions in an emergency situation.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively.
- Reliable and responsible, with proven ability to use good judgment.
- Ideal candidate will enjoy working in a school environment.
- Key competencies and EQ in the following areas: self-awareness, self-management, empathy, social expertness, initiative, and accountability.
Responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring the safety of swimmers and guests using the pool during all Junior and Senior School aquatics classes, practices, special sessions, staff swims, and user group rental bookings.
- Performing all levels of first aid as needed from simple minor issues through to managing major emergencies.
- Following Pool Operations and Safety manual guidelines.
- Performing and recording pool chemistry water tests.
- Assisting with regular daily light maintenance, cleaning and related work as needed and directed by the Head of Aquatics.
- Maintains an ‘eyes and ears’ approach to overseeing the entire pool facility as the primary and often solo guard.
- Potential to assist with pool operations duties and/or teaching assistance pending qualifications.
